Spain's Elite Players' Group (EPG) has announced it will host the first World Cup for players aged 35 and over, in June 2024.
The first tournament will feature eight World Cup winners: Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, England, Germany, France, Spain and Italy. The teams will be drawn and play a knockout match to determine the champion. The quarter-finals will be held on June 4, the semi-finals on June 7 and the final on June 11, in Madrid.

Each team can register a maximum of 25 members, including 18 players. Players participating in the tournament must be 35 years of age or older, have played for the national team or played at least 100 matches in national championships.
According to the Daily Mail , the England team will have famous players such as Ashley Cole, Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand, David James, Frank Lampard or Robbie Fowler, along with captain Steve McManaman. The captains of the remaining seven teams are Esteban Cambiasso (Argentina), Emerson Rosa (Brazil), Christian Karembeu (France), Kevin Kuranyi (Germany), Marco Materazzi (Italy), Michel Salgado (Spain) and Diego Lugano (Uruguay).
The tournament is also expected to bring together five players who have won the Golden Ball, namely Michael Owen, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Fabio Cannavaro. In addition, many stars will also participate such as Thierry Henry, Marcel Desailly (France), Hernan Crespo, Pablo Zabaleta (Argentina), Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira (Germany), David Villa, Carlos Puyol (Spain), Francesco Totti (Italy) and Diego Forlan (Uruguay).
Each team will be allowed to field 11 players, with unlimited substitutions. Each match will last 70 minutes, with each half lasting 35 minutes, with no extra time. In the event of a tie, the teams will go to a penalty shootout to determine their place in the next round.
The Elite Players Group (EPG) is an organisation set up by leading former players and football managers in 2023. The organisation's first tournament will be called the EPG Cup, which is likened to the World Cup for players over 35.
