Ronaldo is like a tightly compressed spring.

After more than three years filled with controversy, pressure, and failure, Cristiano Ronaldo finally clinched the Saudi Pro League title with Al-Nassr in a moment of overwhelming joy and haunting memories.

Ronaldo finally achieved what everyone thought would be easy: winning the Saudi Pro League with Al-Nassr. Ironically, this turned out to be one of the most difficult and emotional titles of the Portuguese superstar's career.

After the final whistle against Damascus on May 22nd, Ronaldo broke down in tears. Those were tears of release for a man who had endured so much pressure, doubt, and failure for over three years in Saudi Arabia.

The spring is compressed tightly.

Many viewed Ronaldo's move to the Saudi Pro League in 2023 as merely a retirement move to reap the financial rewards. And indeed, the financial aspect played a significant role. Al-Nassr needed Ronaldo to expand its global influence, while Saudi Arabia needed him as a symbol of its national football revolution.

Ronaldo did that job perfectly. He drew the world's attention to the Saudi Pro League, paving the way for a host of stars like Karim Benzema, Sadio Mane, Joao Felix, and Kingsley Coman to move to the Middle East. But there was one problem that hurt Ronaldo more than anything else. He scored many goals but couldn't win the league.

For Ronaldo, that was almost unacceptable.

A familiar image of Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia.

Ronaldo's football is an obsession with winning. Therefore, throughout his early stint at Al-Nassr, we witnessed a highly frustrated version of CR7. He kicked water bottles, lost his temper with teammates, reacted against referees, argued with the coaching staff, and even lost control several times due to provocation from the stands.

Al-Nassr was like a psychologically weak giant back then. They had Ronaldo, Mane, Brozovic, Laporte, but they always crumbled at the crucial moment. This season, they suffered another painful defeat in the AFC Champions League Two against Gamba Osaka. Ronaldo even walked straight into the tunnel, refusing to accept the runner-up medal. That image says it all.

CR7 understands that if he continues to go trophyless, his legacy in Saudi Arabia will be distorted. People will remember Ronaldo more as a commercial icon than a champion.

Therefore, winning the Saudi Pro League means far more than just a domestic title.

Overcoming the obsession

Al-Nassr transformed with the arrival of Jorge Jesus. The Portuguese coach not only brought organization but also created a strong, resilient squad capable of competing over the long term. The additions of Felix and Coman turned Al-Nassr's attack into a true destructive force.

They won their first 10 games of the season, and Ronaldo once again became the center of attention. But, true to familiar script, Al-Nassr faltered mid-season. Ronaldo was furious that the club hadn't strengthened its squad as expected, even going on a short strike after Al-Hilal signed Benzema.

The Saudi Pro League immediately spoke out in defense of the league's fairness. Opponents also began publicly criticizing Al-Nassr for allegedly having powerful backing. Ivan Toney even hinted that the league wanted to award the trophy to Ronaldo.

And in that chaos, Ronaldo reacted in his most familiar way: scoring a goal.

He scored in crucial matches, lifting Al-Nassr through immense pressure. But even before the final round, fear still gripped the yellow-clad team. They had squandered too many opportunities to win the championship.

Then that moment arrived.

A fitting end for Ronaldo.

Against Damac, Mane opened the scoring, Coman doubled the lead before Ronaldo sealed the match with his trademark brace. After the second goal, CR7 almost burst into tears on the pitch. He knew this time everything would be within his grasp.

That's why Ronaldo broke down in tears as he left the pitch amidst applause. A player who has won almost every major and minor title still cried like a child who had just won a championship for the first time.

While the Saudi Pro League may not be a huge name in the world of football, for Ronaldo, it was the ultimate confirmation that he didn't come to Saudi Arabia just to make money.

He came here to win.

And after a series of angers, frustrations, ridicule, and immense pressure, Ronaldo finally transformed Al-Nassr from a team that had never won a championship into the king of Saudi Arabia.
