Ever since the group list for the first two rounds was announced, attention has been focused on the "dream" group of Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele - the three golfers currently occupying the top three positions on the official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).

Not only is this the highest-ranked group, but the trio have also won four of the last five major titles. They will start the first round at 7:22 p.m. on May 15 and the second round at 12:47 a.m. on May 17 (Vietnam time).

After his historic win at The Masters 2025, Rory McIlroy enters Quail Hollow with high spirits. Quail Hollow is also a "fertile land" for the Northern Irish golfer as he has won 4 times at this course in 2010, 2015, 2021 and 2024.

McIlroy now has three wins this season, all at star-studded events like the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Players Championship and The Masters, where he became the sixth golfer in history to complete the Grand Slam (The Masters, PGA Championship, US Open, The Open).

With the boost from Augusta and the confidence at Quail Hollow, many believe McIlroy can make history with a quadruple Grand Slam in the same season – something only the legendary Tiger Woods has ever come close to.

Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler – the world’s number one golfer – is in top form. His CJ Cup Byron Nelson win two weeks ago with a total score of (-31) shows that he is ready to conquer the first PGA Championship title of his career.

Xander Schauffele comes into this year's tournament as the defending champion, having won the title at Valhalla last season. His solid and consistent play has always made him a tough player to beat in majors. He has won two of the last four majors and has had seven top-10 finishes in the last nine majors.

Another name that is also expected is Jordan Spieth. If he wins the PGA Championship, Spieth will become the 7th golfer in history to complete all 4 major titles - a great milestone in the career that he has long pursued.

Justin Thomas is also a notable figure. He just ended a nearly three-year winless streak when he beat Andrew Novak at the RBC Heritage in April. Before that, JT finished second at Valspar and just finished tied for second at the Truist Championship, just two strokes behind champion Sepp Straka.

Thomas was also the winner of the most recent PGA Championship held at Quail Hollow (in 2017), the first of two times he lifted the prestigious Wanamaker Trophy.

Besides the group of Rory, Scheffler and Schauffele, the audience also witnessed many exciting competitions in other groups including Brooks Koepka – Rickie Fowler – Shane Lowry; Jon Rahm – Patrick Cantlay – Matt Fitzpatrick; Justin Thomas – Dustin Johnson – Collin Morikawa; Jordan Spieth – Patrick Reed – Ludvig Aberg.
