At around 6 PM, 15-year-old Nguyen Tan Loc and his friends were on their way home from school when they stopped by the beach. They spotted a turtle that appeared exhausted and washed ashore. The turtle's shell was covered in various marine creatures, so the students removed and cleaned them before pushing the animal back into the sea.
Judging by its size, many local fishermen believe the sea turtle was mature, likely injured, and therefore washed ashore.
Green sea turtles (green turtles) are listed in the Red Book of threatened and endangered species. Con Dao District ( Ba Ria - Vung Tau province ) is the main nesting ground for green sea turtles, with 90% of green sea turtles in Vietnam breeding there. From 2018 to 2022, an average of 687 green sea turtles came ashore to lay eggs each year, with over 2,000 nests hatched and more than 145,000 hatchlings released back into the sea.
