At around 6pm, Nguyen Tan Loc, 15, and a group of friends stopped by the beach on their way home from school and discovered an exhausted turtle washed ashore. The turtle had many marine creatures stuck to its shell, which the group of students removed, cleaned, and then pushed back into the sea.

Looking at its size, many local fishermen believe that the sea turtle was an adult and was likely injured and had drifted ashore.

Green turtles are listed in the Red Book of threatened and endangered species. Con Dao District ( Ba Ria - Vung Tau ) is the main breeding ground for green turtles, 90% of green turtles in Vietnam breed here. From 2018 to 2022, an average of 687 green turtles come to the breeding ground each year with more than 2,000 nests hatched and more than 145,000 baby turtles released into the sea.
