More than 20,000 visitors recently had the opportunity to admire one of Belgium's most unique works of art: a giant carpet of flowers made from over half a million dahlias in the Grand Place in Brussels. This event became a focal point of attention for tourists from August 15-18.
Despite facing intense heat on the first day and sudden rain showers, the flower carpet maintained its vibrant beauty. According to the organizers, dahlias – the chosen flower for this year's theme – proved their incredible resilience. This is the first time in over 50 years that the flower carpet has been primarily made up of dahlias instead of the traditional begonias.
Viewing the panoramic flower carpet from the balcony of Brussels City Hall is a unique experience that visitors shouldn't miss. For just 8 euros, visitors have the chance to admire a vibrant work of art, created by the hands of talented gardeners.
The Brussels Flower Carpet is not only a cultural event that attracts tourists, but also a symbol of the city. Last year, the Brussels city government officially submitted an application for the event to be recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. If recognized, this would be a significant milestone, affirming the cultural and artistic value of the Brussels Flower Carpet on the international stage.
While awaiting the final decision from UNESCO, expected to be announced at the end of 2025, organizers are preparing for another flower event to take place in August 2025. "Flower Time" is a flower exhibition displayed in the City Hall and on the Grand Square, which will offer visitors a novel and exciting experience.
The Brussels flower carpet is not just a work of art, but also a testament to the Belgian people's love for nature and art. This event has enriched Brussels' cultural life and attracts numerous tourists.
