The combination of mobile library vehicles, reading competitions, book circulation, and the application of technology is contributing to narrowing the gap in access to knowledge, fostering reading habits, and building a learning society in the digital age.
Bringing books closer to readers.
In early April, the mobile library program of Dong Nai Library, themed "The Light of Knowledge," became a familiar meeting place for students from many primary and secondary schools in the province. Each vehicle carried nearly 3,000 books of diverse genres, from comics, history, and science to literature and life skills. The reading space was set up right in the schoolyard, allowing students to freely choose, explore, and develop a reading habit from an early age.
Beyond just reading, experiential activities such as book introductions, sharing impressions, and picture-guessing games have created a vibrant learning atmosphere, stimulating students' thinking and creativity.
On April 16th, the opening ceremony of the 5th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day of Dong Nai Province - 2026 will take place at the Dong Nai Library in Tan Trieu Ward. The theme of the event will be: Books and Digital Transformation - Spreading Knowledge in the New Era. The program will run until April 17th and will include many attractive activities such as: art book exhibitions, author-book interactions, exchanging old books for new ones, and providing free library cards to readers…
Nguyen Minh Khang (a 6th-grade student at Phuoc Tan 1 Secondary School, Phuoc Tan Ward) excitedly shared: “I really enjoy these mobile library trips to school. I was most impressed by the interactive sessions and sharing of our passion for reading through games, which helped me remember the book content longer. I hope the mobile library will return to school many more times so that we have more opportunities to explore this treasure trove of new knowledge.”
According to Nguyen Thi Sen, Deputy Head of the Information Processing and Informatics Department of the Dong Nai Library, “One of the highlights of this year’s mobile library journey was the Dong Nai Library’s service to readers at the Provincial Center for Supporting Inclusive Education Development (Bien Hoa Ward) on April 9th. Here, the light of knowledge reached special needs students. Visually impaired children had access to Braille books, participated in storytelling activities using sign language, learned new knowledge, and enjoyed quizzes with prizes.”
In communes and wards throughout the province, activities in response to Vietnam's Book and Reading Culture Day 2026 were also vibrant. While Tran Bien ward created a highlight with a book space at Bien Hung Park and a book introduction and appreciation contest with the theme "My Favorite Book" (on April 24th), Binh Long ward promoted mobile book services at schools; and simultaneously mobilized donations of books and reading equipment for disadvantaged children and the elderly. These diverse activities contributed to a colorful picture of reading culture, affirming the role of books in nurturing the souls and intellect of the community.
Digitization to expand reading space.
Alongside bringing books to the community, Dong Nai Library is promoting digital transformation, gradually building a modern reading ecosystem. Thousands of local history books of the province have been digitized and integrated with QR codes to help readers easily access them remotely. In particular, the library has implemented a model for experiencing Dong Nai's culture and history through interactive screens and virtual reality simulations, along with online reading of books and newspapers. Thanks to this, readers, especially young people in and outside the province, have the opportunity to access knowledge anytime, anywhere.
According to Vu Ngoc Bich, Deputy Director of Dong Nai Library (in charge of facility 2, Binh Phuoc ward): Currently, facility 2 has over 140,000 books, documents, and newspapers on display and available to readers, including over 1,000 e-books. Facility 2 has digitized all local history documents into PDF format so that readers can access them remotely.
“The application of technology not only helps with better storage but also effectively serves the needs of lifelong learning. In the future, we will continue to digitize new local history documents donated annually by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and publishers so that those who live far away can still access and research valuable resources about the Dong Nai region,” Mr. Bich said.
Furthermore, the Dong Nai Library and the Dong Nai Provincial Youth Cultural Center also maintain and develop audiobooks and book introduction videos on YouTube and Facebook. Currently, the Dong Nai Library's YouTube channel has three sections: Storytelling for Children; Reading with Friends; and entries for the Reading Culture Ambassador competition. Most of the books featured include books about President Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam's islands and seas, children's stories, and historical figures and cultural icons such as Tran Thuong Xuyen, Nguyen Huu Canh, Trinh Hoai Duc, Chu Van An, Vo Thi Sau, and Nguyen Thi Suot…
When books are no longer limited by space, time, or accessibility, reading culture has more opportunities to take root deeply within the community. This is not only a journey of spreading knowledge but also a sustainable foundation for building a learning society, where every citizen in Dong Nai can learn throughout their lives from the pages of books, whether in paper or digital space.
