Few artists can make such a quick comeback after facing a crisis as Negav. Less than two months after the series of controversies, from his shocking statements about dropping out of school to his offensive comments, the rapper reappeared at the "Brother Says Hi" Day 2 concert. From that time until now, Negav has continued his activities as if nothing happened. He has consistently attended various events, released new products, and most recently, returned to "Brother Says Hi" Season 2.
Just when it seemed the storm had passed for Negav, his rapid and frequent return to the media has angered many. Since then, even a minor controversy has been enough to reignite a boycott.
A wave of boycotts is directed at Negav.
The boycott wave has returned just as Negav is about to embark on his journey in the second season of "Brother Say Hi" - a competition that once launched the rapper's career.
The controversy stemmed from Negav's participation in a marketing campaign for a women's brand. The debate erupted when many viewers argued that the rapper had a history of disrespectful behavior towards women, contradicting the brand's values.
Following the incident, articles and videos documenting Negav's activities during his return after the controversy circulated on social media. From these images, viewers felt that the rapper had not yet shown maturity or remorse.
Amidst the controversy, Negav's actions on his personal page continued to spark discussion. The rapper reposted a status update that read: "Blowing out someone else's candle doesn't make you any brighter." However, many viewers expressed disagreement below the post, arguing that the rapper still seemed to be unaware of his own mistake.
On social media, many fans have stated that they have sent letters protesting Negav's presence at upcoming shows, notably the two music festivals in Hai Phong (August 30th) and Quy Nhon (September 1st). Numerous comments boycotting the rapper have also appeared under posts promoting these events. Under public pressure, Negav has been removed from the list of artists for both concerts.
Most recently, on the afternoon of August 21st, social media circulated an article from PN Legal Law Firm, which claimed to be authorized by Negav, warning that recent acts of distortion and slander have seriously affected the rapper's legal rights and interests. The article included a document from the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department (A05).
However, shortly afterward, the official A05 fanpage issued a statement saying that the agency was inviting individuals involved in the post to verify and clarify the content of the document.
The aforementioned controversy continued to generate a major debate on social media, directly affecting Negav's image.
As of the morning of August 22nd, Negav remained silent amidst the recent controversies.
Public opinion does not easily forget and will not accept an attitude of shirking responsibility.
Talk with According to Tri Thức - Znews , media expert Hong Quang Minh believes that the current boycott of Negav is not just a temporary reaction but also a collective moral judgment.
“Previously, when Negav’s scandal first broke out, people were outraged because of her personal story; but this time, the outrage stems from the fact that a large, long-standing, reputable brand with women is collaborating with a figure who was previously accused of harming that very target group. While the old crisis hasn’t been resolved, her reappearance on a large-scale program is seen as a ‘whitewashing’ move, legitimizing her image,” he explained.
Moreover, Negav's quick return to the stage led many to believe he was merely riding the wave of public opinion, not genuinely repenting or reforming. This only intensified the boycott.
According to experts, Negav can no longer simply "stay quiet and wait for things to calm down." This strategy may have worked in some past cases, but the context is different now, as are the public and social media. Gen Z—the generation that leads public opinion today—doesn't forget easily, and they don't accept an attitude of "denying responsibility."
"If Negav chooses to continue performing without any remorse, he may retain a loyal fanbase, but he will lose the trust of the majority of neutral viewers, who ultimately determine an artist's long-term career," said Hong Quang Minh.
He also suggested that Negav should first and foremost suspend all public activity to seriously listen to public opinion and reassess the consequences of his actions. Simultaneously, there should be a transparent dialogue, sharing his journey of confronting his mistakes, demonstrating genuine efforts to change and atone. Most importantly, Negav needs to rebuild trust, not just his image.
According to experts, the boycott is not intended to destroy an individual, but rather a way for the public to demonstrate the limits of societal acceptance. In Negav's case, when serious issues remain unresolved and there is no proper effort at reintegration, continued unconditional support will inadvertently blur the lines between talent and character, between artist and social responsibility.
"Continuing to support Negav at this time would set a dangerous precedent that, with a large enough fan base, artists can make a comeback despite past mistakes. This goes against the global trend, where celebrities are judged not only by their artistic output, but also by their moral influence and the social role models they represent," Mr. Hong Quang Minh emphasized.
