AirHelp, the world's leading flight compensation company, has just announced the " World's Best Airports 2025" rankings in July 2025.

Why are the experience scores of the two largest airports in the country low?

Among the 250 airports on the list, Noi Bai airport ranked 242 with 6.71 points on a 10-point scale, while Tan Son Nhat airport ranked 248 with 6.21 points on a 10-point scale. Noi Bai airport scored 6.4 (on-time performance), 7.2 (customer reviews) and 7.1 ( food and beverage quality, shops) respectively. Meanwhile, Tan Son Nhat airport scored 6.1, 6.6 and 6.1 respectively.

Noi Bai Airport is an ambitious aviation hub. As Vietnam’s tourism industry has boomed, the airport has steadily modernized, adding new terminals and improving services. Many travelers have praised its layout, ease of domestic transfers, and growing amenities. But in 2025, these efforts are overshadowed by increased flight delays.

However, among the lower-ranked airports, Noi Bai seems to have maintained its momentum, making it a strong candidate to improve its position in future rankings.

Meanwhile, once considered one of the most promising airports in Southeast Asia, Tan Son Nhat (SGN) has fallen sharply in this year's rankings. This may be due to the rapid increase in travel demand that has outpaced the airport's capacity. Flight delays are common (only 61% of flights depart on time) and passengers have complained about long wait times at passport control and a feeling that the airport is "too chaotic".

However, Tan Son Nhat remains an important hub for both domestic and international travel. The airport's friendly staff and location make it a vital link in Vietnam's booming economy.

Hope to reduce the delay and delay of flights

Talking to reporters of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, many passengers suggested that Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai airports need to continue improving service quality to be more highly rated.

As a frequent business traveler by plane, Ms. Ngoc Tran (residing in Hiep Binh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) said that every time she lands at Tan Son Nhat Airport, the thing she dreads the most is waiting to get her luggage. Passengers have been in the domestic terminal (T1) for a long time but often have to wait about 5-10 minutes, even 15-20 minutes for their luggage to be transferred to the conveyor belt. Some buses carrying passengers from the airport to the terminal are also slow, causing long waits.

Up to now, more than 3 months after Tan Son Nhat T3 terminal came into operation, there are still cases of passengers going to the wrong terminal between T1 and T3. Many passengers suggested that Tan Son Nhat airport should soon have a plan to build an internal road connecting terminals T1, T2, T3 or organize public transportation to meet the travel needs of passengers.

Automatic baggage weighing service at Australian airports saves time and reduces pressure on airports

Mr. Pham Anh Vu, Deputy Director of Viet Travel Company, said from the perspective of a travel business, regularly welcoming and transporting tourist groups at the airport, as well as directly receiving feedback from many tourists, what he is most concerned about is the low on-time performance of flights at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat. Flight delays not only disrupt schedules and incur costs for customers, but also directly affect the quality of services of businesses and the image of Vietnamese tourism.

"To improve, in addition to optimizing the exploitation process, Vietnamese airports need to promote the application of technology such as Auto-gate (automatic entry) or automatic baggage weighing, helping to save time, reduce pressure and increase customer satisfaction. Currently, airports such as Changi (Singapore) or Incheon (Korea) have successfully applied. Technology is the key to improving punctuality index, service capacity and raising the level of Vietnamese tourism on the international map" - Mr. Pham Anh Vu said.
