Bringing chess to disadvantaged children
The Happy Chess community chess project is a meaningful initiative initiated by Dr. Jane Nguyen in 2023 with the support of the Vietnam Chess Federation.
The project aims to bring 100,000 chess sets and mobilize 1,000 volunteer coaches to orphans, disabled children and children in difficult circumstances at shelters, SOS villages and disadvantaged residential areas across the country.
Over the past 2 years, the Happy Chess project has truly become a space for learning, exercise, and love for many young people in difficult circumstances, where chess becomes a bridge to help children develop comprehensively in terms of intelligence, physical strength, and emotions.

After more than 2 months of accompanying the children at Mother's Love Shelter 2, the closing ceremony on July 26 was an emotional milestone marking the journey of training and growth. Not only expressing their thanks through words, the children also performed zumba dance and arts very professionally and emotionally, making the whole hall silent with emotion.
Love Connection
Next, the Happy Chess & Friendship 2025 tournament officially opened, attracting nearly 70 children from the Khang Dien Royalchess Center and Shelter to participate, creating a harmonious, vibrant and emotional atmosphere.
Regardless of circumstances, all the children competed, interacted and bonded through each game, creating a beautiful image of sharing, connecting and nurturing childhood friendships. The competitive atmosphere was lively, friendly and encouraging, demonstrating the spirit of fair sportsmanship and beautiful friendship.
Coach Nguyen Tien Sang, who is in charge of training at the shelter during the summer, shared: "Each season of Happy Chess leaves a special mark. For me, the moment when the children confidently compete, know how to shake hands with their opponents, and know how to hold their heads high even when they lose, that is the greatest victory."

In particular, the project introduces the ChessUp smart chess set version 2 using artificial intelligence to support learning and practice, with the hope that no matter what circumstances they are born into, every child deserves to have access to modern technology and the same learning methods.
That is how Happy Chess not only teaches children to play chess, but also instills in them the belief that every child has the right to dream, to be given opportunities, and to develop like any other child of the same age.
Mr. Walter Power - CEO of The Grand Ho Tram, the main sponsor of the project, expressed his honor to accompany a meaningful program, connecting the community through education , intelligence and love, affirming that he will continue to strongly and consistently accompany this humane journey.
The fourth season of Happy Chess has come to a complete end, leaving an unforgettable mark and continuing to pave the way for future journeys written by the love and spirit of constant improvement of the children.
