Approving the "Project to organize the 10th National Sports Congress in 2026"

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) Hoang Dao Cuong signed Decision No. 2676/QD-BVHTTDL approving the "Project to organize the 10th National Sports Congress in 2026".

The objective of the 10th National Sports Congress in 2026 (hereinafter referred to as the Congress) is to comprehensively assess the quality of the sports movement nationwide; promptly detect and plan to train and foster a force of athletes ready to compete in the 34th SEA Games in 2027, the 34th Olympic Games in 2028, and the 21st ASIAN Games in 2030.

Enhance awareness of all levels, sectors and the whole society about the position, role and effects of physical education and sports; promote the movement of physical training among the people, contribute to improving physical fitness, improving the quality of human resources, serving the construction and protection of the fatherland, creating conditions for the rapid development of high-performance sports, promoting the development of facilities and basic, systematic and scientific training of athletes to raise sports achievements to a new level.

  The 10th National Sports Congress in 2026 closely follows the development orientation of Vietnamese sports.

Strengthen the network of technical facilities for physical education and sports to meet competition standards, while improving the management, organization and operation capacity of sports officials and referees.

Besides, it also aims to introduce and promote the image of Ho Chi Minh City - a smart city, a modern industrial and service city with good quality of life, civilized, modern and humane. Linking the activities of preparing and organizing the Congress with the propaganda and education of historical and cultural traditions; encouraging and motivating the spirit of patriotism and national pride of the masses, especially among teenagers and students, to practically celebrate the 51st anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and national reunification.

The 10th National Sports Congress in 2026 is expected to organize 47 sports, including 3 groups.

Specifically, the Olympic group of sports (22 sports): Athletics (including Ba Ra Mountain Cross-country), Aquatics (Swimming, Diving), Gymnastics, Rowing (Rowing, Canoeing/Kayak, Sailing, Traditional Boat), Football (11-a-side football for men and women; Men's Futsal), Wrestling (Freestyle wrestling, Classic wrestling, Beach wrestling), Shooting, Archery, Weightlifting, Judo, Taekwondo, Boxing, Fencing, Badminton, Tennis, Volleyball (Indoor, Beach), Basketball (5x5, 3x3), Handball (Indoor, Beach), Cycling (Road, Terrain), Table Tennis, Golf, Triathlon (Triathlon).

ASIAD group of events (07 events): Karate, Wushu, Sepak Takraw, Kurash, Jujitsu, Roller and Esport.

SEA Games and traditional sports group (12 sports regularly included in the competition program of the SEA Games and 06 traditional sports strongly developed in many localities): Pencak Silat, Bodybuilding, Muay, Petanque, Kick Boxing, Bowling, Chess (Chess, Chinese Chess, Go), Billiards & Snooker, Sports dancing, Vovinam, Diving, Traditional martial arts, Shuttlecock, Stick fighting, Tug of war, Pickleball and Lion and Dragon.

The Congress is expected to take place in early November 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City (main venue) and the two provinces of Dong Nai and Dong Thap.

The project recommends that participating units mobilize the best athletes from provinces, centrally-run cities and the Army and Police to participate.

Localities and units hosting the competitions proactively prepare the physical facilities on the principle of making the most of available facilities and equipment. The upgrading and repair of sports facilities serving the organization of the Games are carried out according to the socio-economic development plans of the locality and sector approved by competent authorities.

Organize the Congress in the spirit of efficiency, practicality, thrift, avoiding waste and absolute safety; actively mobilize social resources to organize the Congress; at the same time, must demonstrate the position of Ho Chi Minh City - a special urban area, along with the sense of responsibility of authorities at all levels, the hospitality and affection of the people of Ho Chi Minh City.

Units need to fully prepare facilities and human resources to organize the Congress to ensure professional requirements and absolute safety.
