In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, at Ninh Truong Medicinal Mushroom Company Limited (Tho Phong commune, Quang Ngai province), production is proceeding urgently to meet the early orders for Tet gifts. The cordyceps gift sets are invested in both quality and appearance, targeting the corporate and partner gift segment.
According to Mr. Truong Quang Ninh, the company's director, achieving OCOP 4-star certification is an important foundation, but to compete in the high-end Tet gift market, aesthetics are increasingly playing a decisive role. "This year, we designed new packaging, incorporating images of local scenic spots. As a result, the number of orders for gifts has doubled compared to last year," Mr. Ninh said.

Not only Ninh Truong, but many OCOP (One Commune One Product) businesses in Quang Ngai also consider Tet (Lunar New Year) a crucial time to establish their brand. At Dat Quang OCOP Co., Ltd. (Nghia Lo ward), gift baskets combine specialty foods and handicrafts, using environmentally friendly materials such as rattan and bamboo, and paper bags instead of plastic packaging.
Ms. Truong Thi Thu Huong, Deputy Director of the company, noted that consumers are increasingly seeking out traditional values but in a modern form. "OCOP gift baskets are successful because they clearly reflect regional characteristics, creating a distinction from mass-produced industrial products," Ms. Huong said.
For agricultural production facilities, OCOP certification not only elevates product quality but also expands market opportunities. Mr. Bach Thanh Phu, owner of Oly Food brown rice facility (Truong Giang commune), said that after achieving OCOP certification, products are tagged with QR codes for traceability, ensuring transparency and building consumer trust. "This is a prerequisite for small-scale producers like us to get our products into supermarkets and modern sales channels," Mr. Phu shared.

Thanks to the efforts of businesses and households, the Tet gift market in Quang Ngai is witnessing a clear shift. While previously Tet gift baskets mainly consisted of industrially produced confectionery, now local OCOP products are increasingly dominating.
At supermarket chains like Go!, Co.opmart, WinMart, or central provincial spring markets, OCOP (One Commune One Product) stalls always attract a large number of customers. Products once considered "local gifts" have now been systematically invested in terms of design, meeting the "delicious - beautiful - safe" demands of modern consumers.
From a buyer's perspective, Ms. Thoi Thi Hue (Truong Quang Trong ward) said that her family prioritizes gift baskets containing 100% local OCOP products. "The products have clear origins, we are confident in their quality, and they showcase the unique characteristics of our hometown when given as gifts to relatives," Ms. Hue shared.
According to statistics, Quang Ngai province currently has 619 OCOP products that are still valid according to regulations. Many products are chosen by consumers during Tet (Lunar New Year) due to their guaranteed food safety and hygiene, clear origin, improved design, and stable prices. This is also the most important season of the year for OCOP production and business establishments.

However, to maintain market share and achieve sustainable development, OCOP businesses still face many challenges, especially maintaining consistent quality and supply capacity during peak periods.
Mr. Vo Quoc Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Ngai province, said that the authorities will continue to support connecting supply and demand and bringing OCOP products into modern distribution channels. "Most importantly, businesses must maintain quality after obtaining certification, avoiding chasing quantity while neglecting quality control," Mr. Hung emphasized.
The rise of OCOP products in Tet gift baskets not only reflects changes in consumer tastes but also demonstrates the sustainable direction of the rural economy : prioritizing quality, identity, and the environment as core values.
