The application of science and technology, high technology in medical examination and treatment in general and in the field of obstetrics and gynecology in particular, is of special interest to the hospital. To successfully perform these techniques, the team of doctors and technicians must be regularly trained, coached, and improve their expertise. From there, they can skillfully perform the techniques, giving the most accurate diagnoses.
Among prenatal screening tests, non-invasive prenatal screening (NIPT) is increasingly popular among pregnant women in Vietnam in general and Dong Nai in particular. With high accuracy and absolute safety, NIPT can be prescribed as a first-line test for all pregnant women in addition to traditional biochemical screening.
At the workshop, obstetric experts from Ho Chi Minh City shared a lot of useful information related to prenatal screening. In the report "NIPT negative but abnormal fetal ultrasound - Causes and treatment", Dr. Thai Doan Minh, Head of the Prenatal Diagnosis Unit, My Duc Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, especially noted that NIPT is a powerful screening tool but does not completely replace genetic diagnosis. The close combination of NIPT, ultrasound and specialized diagnostic tests is the key to ensuring a safe pregnancy.
Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Do Thi Thanh Thuy, Institute of Medical Genetics, former Deputy Director of the Center for Molecular Biomedicine, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that expanding genetic screening for serious single-gene diseases such as spinal muscular atrophy and Fragile X is a necessary step to improve population quality and reduce the burden of genetic diseases in the community.
With the development of genetic technology, couples before planning to get pregnant can choose to perform genetic testing to screen for 20 of the most common and serious recessive genetic diseases, including: spinal muscular atrophy, Thalassemia, Pompe, congenital adrenal hyperplasia... This is an effective solution to detect healthy people carrying the disease gene. From there, determine the risk of transmitting the disease to children.
