Hanoi is the locality with the largesteducational scale in the country. This school year, the capital continues to lead in the number of students with nearly 2.3 million students, 130,000 teachers and more than 2,900 schools. This is also a special school year when the 2018 General Education Program is implemented in all grades.
As soon as the 2023-2024 school year ended, Hanoi directed district and commune units to actively invest in facilities, schools, and classrooms to meet the requirements of the new program, improving the quality of mass and key education.
In Ho Chi Minh City, this year the locality is expected to have more than 1.7 million students of all levels, an increase of more than 24,000 students compared to the previous school year. Increasing the number of students has been one of the pressures of the city in recent years, especially in places with rapid urbanization and high mechanical population growth.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that the city has spent more than VND540 billion to purchase and repair facilities, ensuring that 100% of students in the area have a place to study. In the context of the widespread measles epidemic, the education sector has closely coordinated with the Department of Health, requiring schools to keep a list of students who have been vaccinated against measles, thereby planning to organize vaccinations for them right from the first days of the new school year.
In Truong Sa (Khanh Hoa), on the morning of September 5, schools in Truong Sa district enthusiastically held the opening ceremony of the new school year 2024-2025. Before the opening day, the government, organizations, cadres, soldiers, teachers, parents, and students in the island communes and town of Truong Sa organized cleaning, consolidating the environmental landscape, and arranging classrooms.
In a solemn atmosphere, with bright flags, new clothes, joy on the faces of children, the army and people on the island showed their concern and encouraged teachers and students to overcome difficulties and strive to compete in "Teaching well - learning well".
In a letter to the education sector on the occasion of the opening of the new school year 2024-2025, General Secretary and President To Lam believes that students will strive to study, cultivate, acquire and master knowledge, form core competencies, and create great aspirations to build an increasingly prosperous and happy country.
"I hope that teachers, administrators, and workers in the education sector will always be dedicated, love their jobs, be creative, overcome all difficulties, and contribute more to their noble cause. I hope that parents, for the future of our children, will coordinate well with schools, create a close connection between schools - families - society in education work... I request that central ministries, branches, Party committees, and authorities pay more attention to the education cause with timely, practical, and correct policies so that teachers, students, and trainees can be taught and studied in a healthy environment with full conditions to promote creativity and successfully implement the country's educational reform," General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the Education sector has identified the theme as “Innovation, quality improvement, solidarity and discipline”. This is the year the 2018 General Education Program is implemented in all grades from grade 1 to grade 12, and is also the first school year to organize the high school graduation exam according to the new program.
Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son acknowledged that this is a school year with “many major tasks and challenges”. One of the tasks that the Ministry of Education and Training focuses on this school year is to improve the quality of preschool and general education, including improving the quality of teaching and learning foreign languages, especially English at all levels and training levels. The Ministry of Education and Training will research and develop projects and plans to gradually make English the second language in schools.
The development of teachers and lecturers is also a priority for the Education sector, focusing on recruiting, managing, and effectively using the assigned teacher quota, overcoming the shortage of teachers, especially preschool teachers and teachers teaching subjects according to the 2018 General Education Program.
The industry will prepare well the conditions to organize the high school graduation exam in 2025, ensuring safety, seriousness and objectivity. At the preschool level, the Ministry will prepare the conditions to pilot the new preschool education program.
The Ministry of Education and Training considers this an important school year when the whole country completes the process of changing the new curriculum and textbooks. The program is implemented in a rolling manner, applied to grade 1 from the 2020-2021 school year. By this school year, textbooks will be changed from primary school to grade 5, from middle school to grade 9, and from high school to grade 12.
The education sector faces the challenge of synchronously innovating the transfer exams and graduation exams, from teaching to exam preparation, organizing appropriate admissions and selection. In addition, there are old, persistent problems, such as lack of teachers, management of extra teaching and learning...
In addition, the draft Law on Teachers, expected to be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration next October and approved in 2025, is expected to help improve the position and create a legal corridor for policies on treatment, recruitment and rewards for teachers.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the country will have about 25 million students, of which more than 23 million will be in preschool and general education. Tuition fees at all levels range from VND8,000 to VND220,000 per student per month, depending on the location. This is the first year that 5-year-old preschool children will be exempt from tuition fees. The entire education sector has more than 1.6 million teachers, administrators and workers. |
