Acerbi has been named in Spalletti's squad for this month's Nations League and 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The Azzurri will face Norway and Moldova in their next two World Cup qualifiers.

However, coach Spalletti said that center-back Acerbi did not respond to his decision to call him up. In a press conference on June 1, the strategist said: "The national team will still move forward. This is not a physical problem, but his thoughts in the past time."

Acerbi made 33 appearances in all competitions for Inter in the 2024/25 season, and was also involved in the disastrous 0-5 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on June 1.

Italian press reported that Acerbi has decided not to join the Italian national team for the matches in June. The centre-back has just gone through a period of pressure and needs to rest.

At the age of 37, Acerbi made his international debut in 2014 and made a total of 34 appearances, scoring one goal. Before that, the midfielder's return to football after two battles with testicular cancer was considered a miracle.

Inter have now returned home after the Champions League final. Gazzetta said the atmosphere was gloomy, the pain still lingering in the minds of the Italian club's members.

Inter will have about 2 weeks of rest before regrouping, preparing for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the US.

Fans go crazy after PSG wins Champions League In the early morning of June 1, PSG crushed Inter 5-0. After the match, PSG fans made the Allianz Arena stadium explode.
