Overpass collapses in South Korea, 6 injured.

(CLO) A section of the Seosomun overpass in Seoul, South Korea, unexpectedly collapsed on the afternoon of May 26, injuring at least six people and trapping many others under the rubble.

According to local officials, the accident occurred at 2:32 p.m. on the Seosomun overpass. The structure was old and scheduled for complete demolition early next month.

Rescue workers said at least six people were injured in the collapse. Emergency rescue efforts are underway to search for two more people believed to be trapped under the collapsed section of the bridge.

A Seoul city official said that one side of the overpass had collapsed, making the situation at the scene more dangerous during the rescue operation.

Following the incident, Korea Railway Corporation announced a temporary suspension of rail services on the line between Seoul Station and Sinchon Station to ensure safety.

Prime Minister Kim Min-seok has directed the mobilization of all available personnel and equipment for the rescue of victims.

Mr. Kim requested that the Seoul city government, the Ministry of Land, and other relevant agencies coordinate closely in rescue operations, and quickly identify medical facilities that can receive the injured to minimize casualties.

The South Korean Prime Minister also requested that the safety of rescue workers be ensured and that public access to the scene be restricted to prevent further casualties.
