On July 31st, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province announced that it had approved the results of the architectural and landscape design competition for the Truong Sa Museum.
The first prize for the architectural and landscape design of the Truong Sa Museum was awarded to HUNI Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Huni Architectes). In addition, the judging panel also selected two third-prize winners (there was no second-prize winner), and two entries received funding support.

According to the winning bid, the Truong Sa Museum will cover approximately 1.71 hectares, situated on a high hill overlooking the sea, to the west of the Gac Ma Martyrs Memorial Area in Cam Lam district.
In terms of its form and design, the overall architectural structure features three branches reaching powerfully towards the vast ocean, expressing the aspiration to master the sea and islands – the sacred territory of the homeland.
Huni Architectes stated that the design inspiration for the project came from the Gac Ma Martyrs Memorial, where the underground space with 64 flowers symbolizes the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country. The streams of passion flowing from the heart of Mother Earth, rising up, symbolize the indomitable spirit of the people of Khanh Hoa and the people of Vietnam.
That very flow shaped the main form of the structure, creating three main viewpoints towards Gac Ma Island, towards Truong Sa Island, and towards the East Sea.

Inside the museum, the arrangement of gradually increasing atrium spaces, combined with abrupt narrowing and widening of the exhibition areas, guides the emotional journey of the tour, creating a visual impression and a sense of depth for visitors. These atrium locations are designed with expansive views towards the sea, offering unobstructed views of the vast natural landscape.
The exhibition spaces are organized and designed separately, corresponding to each theme and appropriate to the content and characteristics of each type of artifact. Combined with lighting effects and modern display and projection technologies, this creates an attractive museum space that enhances interaction and visitor-friendliness.

In terms of landscape design, the project prioritizes respect for existing elements, utilizing native plant species suitable for the climate and soil conditions. The overall structure flows seamlessly, continuing the spiritual and architectural-landscape values of the Gac Ma Martyrs Memorial.
The journey through these spaces is a journey for visitors to experience cultural and historical values, so that the museum is not just an inanimate structure built from bricks and stones, but a "living witness" containing the spirit and soul of Truong Sa.

The Truong Sa Museum project will be invested in by the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province, with construction funding from social contributions, and is expected to start construction at the end of 2024. This project is part of phase 2 of the Gac Ma Martyrs Memorial Area project (operational since 2017) which was built by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor with a total investment of nearly 130 billion VND.
At a recent meeting, Mr. Nguyen Tan Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province, assessed the Truong Sa Museum as a cultural, historical, and spiritual landmark closely associated with the Gac Ma Martyrs Memorial. The project was built to provide another point of interest for cultural and historical exploration, contributing to traditional education and raising awareness of maritime sovereignty among generations and all segments of the population.
