Sharing the same hardship
According to a quick report from the Nam Hoa Commune People's Committee, heavy rains lasting on October 6 and 7 caused many areas in the area to be deeply flooded and eroded. In the entire commune, one house completely collapsed, many houses had their roofs blown off, and seven households were swept away by floods that caused holes in their walls. Traffic in many places was cut off, more than 2,965m of road was eroded and damaged; six bridges and overflows over streams collapsed. In particular, an iron bridge connecting the old Cay Thi commune with the old Nam Hoa was swept away by water.
Along with that, many schools were flooded from 1 to 3 meters deep, teaching equipment was damaged, some classrooms were sunk, and the foundations were exposed. Cay Thi market had 70 meters of fence collapsed, 50 meters of corrugated iron roof collapsed and 5 kiosks were damaged.
Floodwaters affected 500 hectares of rice and crops, swept away more than 2,000 pigs and nearly 75,000 poultry, and broke many small lakes and dams, including the Ao Sen Lake dam and the Thai Nguyen Black Metallurgical Plant's sludge reservoir, causing mud overflow and local flooding. The initial total damage is estimated at 119 billion VND.

Government close to the people in the eye of the storm
The Nam Hoa Commune Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue Command has activated the "4 on-site" motto: on-site command, on-site forces, on-site means, on-site logistics. Forces: Militia, Police, Youth Union members urgently went to the scene to help people move their property, clear the flow, support rescue and initial recovery.
Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Secretary of the Nam Hoa Commune Party Committee, shared: This is a very large flood, causing the most severe damage in many years. That night, we mobilized all forces to the grassroots, grasping the situation of each household. The guiding principle is to ensure the safety of people's lives above all, leaving no one behind. The commune government always stands side by side with the people in overcoming the situation, from rebuilding houses, cleaning schools to ensuring necessities.

Nam Hoa commune leaders promptly directed the work of responding to and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters. |
According to Mr. Son, although some households are still flooded and isolated, such as in the hamlets of Hoang Gia, Na Tranh, and Na Quan, food, clean water, and necessities have been delivered to the people, ensuring that no one goes hungry during these difficult days.
During the natural disaster, the solidarity of Nam Hoa people was even more evident. Many safe households voluntarily opened their homes to welcome people who had suffered losses to stay temporarily. Commune organizations such as the Women's Union, Youth Union, and Farmers' Association also organized donations and cooked meals to support severely affected families.
Immediately after the flood, in addition to the police and army forces, the government and people of Quang Bach commune also promptly mobilized resources and people to travel more than 100km to Nam Hoa commune to support the government and people in overcoming the consequences of the flood.
“We know that after the flood there will be a lot of work to do, such as restoring production, repairing infrastructure, and disinfecting the environment, but the most precious thing right now is humanity and the sharing between the government and the people,” Mr. Son added.
Currently, the People's Committee of Nam Hoa commune is continuing to coordinate with the province's functional agencies and volunteer organizations to assess and count the damage, and at the same time propose emergency support to help people stabilize their lives and soon restore production after the natural disaster.
