Go! Supermarket imports 2 to 3 tons of vegetables and fruits per day, 5 times more than usual. |
At Dong Quang market, the trading atmosphere has returned to bustling with many fresh and rich goods displayed on stalls by traders. Mr. Do Tuan Anh, a long-time trader here, shared: We have to take advantage of importing green vegetables and fruits to serve the people. But the vegetable source in the province has been seriously damaged, the wholesale market in the Thai market area has just been able to supply again. Along with that, many vegetable growing areas in Thai Nguyen and Hanoi have been flooded and damaged, so the price of vegetables has increased significantly.
Walking along the streets with markets, it is easy to see that the prices of water spinach, mustard greens and pork have all increased compared to the time before the flood. The price of vegetables has nearly doubled, while pork and chicken have also increased slightly. Not only fresh food but also cleaning supplies such as brooms, mops, buckets and basins have increased in price. These are the items that people urgently buy to clean their houses and overcome the consequences after the flood.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuong said: Everyone has to clean their house, so brooms and mops are sold out, the price has increased from 70-200 thousand/mop. In some places, the price is double the usual price, but people have to accept to pay a little more for this.
In the days after the flood, people's lives are still difficult, and the decrease in income has created great pressure. Ms. Duong Thi Lan, in the Minh Cau area, shared: The flood has made the family's economy tight, and the price of vegetables and meat has increased, so every time I go to the market, I have to calculate very carefully. One day, buying a few things cost nearly 400 thousand, almost double compared to before.
In the midst of fluctuating prices and supply constraints, supermarkets like Go!, WinMart+ and VinMart have emerged as bright spots. These chains have not only maintained an abundant supply of goods, but also kept prices stable, making it easier for people to access goods at reasonable prices.
At Go! Thai Nguyen supermarket, goods are prioritized to be supplemented from neighboring provinces to serve Thai Nguyen after the flood. Mr. Hoang Van Thu, Head of the Sales Department, said: On average, we import 2 to 3 tons of vegetables and fruits every day, 5 times more than usual, to meet the increased demand after the flood. In addition, the supermarket also launched a 10% discount program for fresh products every morning to support people.
Ms. Nguyen Quynh Anh, group 46, Phan Dinh Phung ward, shared: After the flood, I saw that the supermarket still had enough vegetables, fruits, ready-to-eat food, the prices were also stable, not suddenly increased like in the market. Shopping here helps me feel more secure in difficult times.

Shops at Tuc Duyen market are trying to recover and resume business. |
In addition to vegetables, items such as instant noodles, water, milk, and bread are also guaranteed a continuous supply by supermarkets and stores, helping to alleviate concerns about food shortages in the community. The supply of gasoline in the area is also maintained stably, meeting the needs of travel and freight transport.
Although the market has gradually stabilized, the consequences of the historic flood still weigh heavily on the people, traders and businesses. Many farmers have lost their crops, many small businesses and supermarkets have suffered heavy losses. The storage and transportation of goods also face many obstacles because the infrastructure has not been fully restored.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, a trader at Tuc Duyen market, said: The flood caused a lot of damage to my store, the goods lost up to 3 billion VND. Immediately after the water receded, my family mobilized human resources to repair and clean up. We classified the seafood that could still be used and provided support to people in need. We hope that there will be more mechanisms and policies for affected businesses so that my family can repair the stall, import more goods and reopen.
According to the leader of the Department of Industry and Trade, although some markets and businesses were affected, the supply of essential goods was still abundant and prices were basically stable. The coordination between businesses, traders and the government helped the market recover quickly, meeting people's needs well.
In addition, the authorities have increased inspections of food hygiene and safety, controlled the origin of goods, prevented price gouging, and protected consumer rights.
