The residential road was collapsed.
Recorded in Thach Son 3 hamlet - the locality that suffered the most damage after the flood, an entire stretch of Lam river bank was swept away by strong water currents, eating deep into the mainland. The concrete residential road running parallel to the river bank was completely broken in half, dozens of meters long concrete slabs collapsed, many bamboo bushes and large trees were pulled down into the riverbed. The landslide created a large frog's jaw, some places up to 7 meters deep.

Ms. Tran Thi Tinh, a resident of Thach Son 3 hamlet, said that this road used to be the main transportation route connecting the hamlet with Anh Son town (old) and neighboring areas. “In the past, we could travel and transport agricultural products very conveniently. Now the road has completely collapsed, everyone has to go around to National Highway 7, which is time-consuming and inconvenient,” Ms. Tinh shared.

A representative of the People's Committee of Anh Son commune said that the continuous rain and floods in recent times have weakened the Lam River bank, leading to a series of landslides and the collapse of a road of about 300 meters. Immediately after the incident, the commune set up a barrier, prohibiting all vehicles from passing through to ensure absolute safety for the people. Due to the local budget constraints, the commune has reported to the province to request support for the repair. A working group from Nghe An province has directly inspected the scene and is proposing long-term solutions.

Houses cracked, unsafe risk
Not only causing the disruption of the residential road, the landslide on the Lam river bank also caused serious damage to some houses along the river in Thach Son 5 hamlet. At the scene, we recorded that some houses located close to the riverbank had large cracks in the walls, foundations and ceilings, increasing the risk of insecurity.

The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan in Hamlet 5 Thach Son is one of the households that suffered the most damage. The house worth more than 1.2 billion VND - the result of many years of labor and savings when her husband went to work abroad, now has long cracks appearing, the foundation on the river side has seriously sunk.

Not far away, the house of Mr. Nguyen Van Ha - Hamlet Chief of Hamlet Thach Son 5 is also in a similar situation. Behind Mr. Ha's house, many bamboo bushes have fallen and concrete slabs have cracked and broken for 5-6 meters. His family and 4 children had to move all their belongings to the hamlet's cultural house for temporary shelter. "In Hamlet Thach Son 5, there are currently 18 households living close to the riverbank, 3 of which have houses with severe cracks and are at risk of collapsing. People are looking forward to building the embankment as soon as possible," said Mr. Ha.

According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Thang - Chairman of Anh Son Commune People's Committee, the Lam River bank flowing through the area has been seriously eroded for more than 1 km. In the context of continued complicated erosion, the most fundamental and effective solution at present is to build a solid embankment to protect residential areas and ensure safety for the local road. However, the funding needed to implement this project exceeds the local capacity.

“We look forward to receiving support from all levels and sectors. If we do not implement this in time, people will continue to face danger in the upcoming flood season,” Mr. Thang emphasized.

Currently, the People's Committee of Anh Son commune is coordinating with specialized agencies to assess the level of landslides, identify dangerous areas, and at the same time, mobilize and support affected households to temporarily move to a safe place. The local government and people all hope to soon have a long-term solution to stabilize their lives, ending the anxiety every time storms come.
