According to SF, the Russian army has just destroyed another US-made M1A1 SA Abrams main battle tank belonging to Kyiv's forces. When attacked and destroyed by Russian fire, the tank was advancing northwest of the city of Avdeevka towards Donetsk.
Images from the video shared on social media show that the tank was first disabled by a FPV suicide drone at night, and then destroyed by a second drone the following morning. The attack targeted the tank's turret, where the ammunition and auxiliary power storage are located.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces received 31 Abrams tanks from the United States over the past year. Russian media sources report that more than a third of these tanks have been destroyed or damaged. All losses involving Abrams tanks occurred near Avdeevka.
The total cost of an Abrams main battle tank varies, but some can cost over $10 million, including training and maintenance.
According to the Associated Press, in early 2024, Ukraine withdrew all Abrams tanks from the front lines because the Russian military's excessive use of drones hampered the tanks' operational capabilities or made them vulnerable to attacks. However, the rapid advance of Russian forces near Avdeevka forced Kyiv's forces to redeploy the tanks.
A recent CNN report acknowledged that this tank performed poorly in Ukraine and revealed that Kyiv's forces are struggling to keep their remaining Abrams tanks operational.

The failure of the US-made Abrams main battle tank in Ukraine is not surprising, given that this type of tank had previously suffered heavy losses in Iraq and Yemen.
The M1-A2 Abrams has a combat weight of 67 tons, is 9.76m long, 3.65m wide, 2.88m high, and is powered by a 1,500 horsepower AGT engine. With its powerful engine, the M1-A2 Abrams can reach a speed of 35 km/h in just 7 seconds from a standstill, has a top speed of 72.421 km/h, and a range of 498 km. This tank is also capable of crossing a 2.4m wide trench and wading through water up to 1.22m deep without preparation and 1.98m with preparation.
