CHANGES IN THE ATTACKING LINEUP

Kylian Mbappe suffered a broken nose and is highly likely to miss France's attacking options. Theoretically, Mbappe started as a central striker in France's win against Austria, although he tends to drift to the left wing. This is previously Olivier Giroud's position, so coach Didier Deschamps might bring Giroud in to replace Mbappe and keep the rest of the starting lineup unchanged. Another solution is to move Marcus Thuram to the center (since Mbappe isn't primarily a central striker) and find another player for the left wing position. This would give young star Bradley Barcola his EURO debut in the French squad.

Without Mbappe, Griezmann will have to shoulder the responsibility of leadership for the French national team.

On the Dutch side, coach Ronald Koeman made several changes to the entire forward line in their opening match against Poland. Wout Weghorst came on and immediately scored the decisive goal, securing all three points for the Netherlands. Midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, coming on as a substitute, also showed his usefulness despite his move to Saudi Arabia. Donyell Malen and Jeremie Frimpong were other substitutes who were brought on when the Netherlands came from behind to beat Poland. They all have hopes of earning a place in the starting lineup this time around.

Substitutions mean a change in playing style. The Netherlands flexibly switched between a 4-3-3 and a 4-2-3-1 formation. This gives coach Koeman another chance to experiment and see which formation he prefers. Meanwhile, Deschamps' problem is the absence of Mbappe. Antoine Griezmann's importance in France's attack may be heightened. For many years, Mbappe has always been the first-choice player when the French team builds up play. Now, they are forced to use "plan B," with Griezmann as the most influential attacking player in the team.

"Long-range" weapons remain very formidable.

One of the signature attacking methods of Dutch football, across generations, has been the long diagonal pass, sending the ball to the winger. Marco Van Basten scored the "legendary" goal in the 1988 EURO final from a pass by Arnold Muhren. Dennis Bergkamp scored the most beautiful goal of the 1998 World Cup against Argentina using the same method. It was also the weapon that took the Netherlands to the 2010 World Cup final. In their opening match at this EURO, that weapon reappeared in situations where Cody Gakpo received the ball, positioned far down the left wing of the attack.

Johan Cruyff famously said, "Football is a simple game, but playing it simply is the hardest thing." This is a prime example of Cruyff's philosophy: a long, lofted pass that delivers the ball to the most dangerous player, after having eliminated a whole host of midfielders. The Netherlands will continue to hone this signature tactic, while France's full-backs need to be wary of this approach from their opponents.

Because the Netherlands-France match takes place after the Poland-Austria match, the two "biggest" teams in the group have more time to strategize their moves (and accompanying playing style). If the Poland-Austria match ends in a win, then a draw would essentially guarantee both the Netherlands and France qualification (at least as third-placed teams with a wildcard spot). Therefore, everything will only become clearer when the match starts.

Goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang: "France will win 1-0"

The French team won 1-0 against Austria in their opening match, despite missing several opportunities. The Netherlands are a strong opponent, and their morale is high after securing three points against Poland in their first game. However, I still believe the French team is stronger. Mbappe's availability after his nose injury is questionable, but they still have an excellent striker like Giroud. I believe the veteran Giroud will score and France will win 1-0 to secure their place in the next round.

Prediction: France wins 1-0.

National team player Nguyen Duc Chien: "The Orange whirlwind is no joke."

Coach Didier Deschamps won the 2018 World Cup but has been unsuccessful at the EUROs despite reaching the final in 2016. Therefore, he is very determined to win in Germany this year. Kante has made an impressive return, but the French team will need more than that when facing a formidable Netherlands side. Both teams won their opening matches, so this encounter will be crucial in determining the top spot in Group D, which will determine their chances of advancing to the knockout round. The French team is heavily reliant on Mbappe, who recently suffered a nose injury, and this will give the Netherlands an opportunity to draw their opponents into a fierce battle across the pitch.

Prediction: A 1-1 draw.
