For Selena Gomez, choosing to participate in the new film is seen as the next step in her journey to break away from the "Disney princess" image that made her famous.
The 9X beauty also admitted to facing a lot of pressure to maintain a wholesome image when she was a child star: "I was never a rebellious child, but working for Disney made me even more careful in my words and actions." Selena Gomez added that she used to always try to be the perfect role model in the eyes of the public. However, now she believes authenticity is the most important thing, even when facing the hidden aspects or complexities of her personality.
This perspective was further emphasized by the "Sunset Blvd" singer in the 2022 documentary " Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me," where she openly discussed her mental health and fear of public judgment: "Now I don't feel like I'm hiding anything from people anymore. Before, I used to worry about what other people would think, or whether they would continue working with me. But now I don't think that way anymore."
