Less than a few days after announcing that her upcoming music project would be her last, singer Selena Gomez has implicitly confirmed social media rumors related to her new film project, posting a photo of singer Linda Ronstadt's autobiography on Instagram.
Legendary Linda Ronstadt and Selena Gomez
Linda Ronstadt is a country, rock'n'roll and Latin music legend whose 1970s albums such as Heart Like a Wheel and Simple Dreams topped the charts and achieved commercial and critical success. Throughout her career, she has won 11 Grammy Awards and received Lifetime Achievement honors from the Recording Academy and the Latin Grammy.
The film, starring Selena Gomez (whose role has yet to be revealed), is in pre-production, with James Keach — director of a previous documentary about Ronstadt — and her longtime manager John Boylan attached.
According to a report leaked in July 2023, Selena Gomez is likely to appear in a new biopic. At that time, the artist has not confirmed or denied the news. In addition, another detail on Boylan's Great Eastern Music Company website also revealed that the two had previously met to discuss the project.
In a big surprise, Keach also directed the documentary Linda and the Mockingbirds , which chronicles Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, and a group of young musicians traveling to her grandfather’s hometown of Banámichi in the Mexican state of Sonora. It’s due out in 2022.
The casting is understandable, as both Selena Gomez and the legendary Ronstadt are of Mexican descent, a fact the veteran actress wrote extensively about in her 2013 memoir.

Although Ronstadt retired in 2012, after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, seven years later the diagnosis was changed to progressive supranuclear palsy - a degenerative disease similar to Parkinson's that left her unable to sing.
Still, Ronstadt and her music have been very popular lately. Last year, her 1970 recording of Long Long Time was featured prominently in an episode of The Last of Us . And Ryan Murphy's upcoming Feud: Capote vs. The Swans makes heavy use of her 1974 hit You're No Good.
In addition to the film released in 2021, the 2019 documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman also offered an in-depth look at Ronstadt's life and career, including appearances and interviews with many of the artist's friends and colleagues: Ry Cooder, Emmylou Harris, Don Henley, Kevin Kline, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt and JD Souther...
It's safe to say that if even a fraction of the celebrities who have worked with Ronstadt over the years are invited to appear in the latest biopic to provide their perspectives on her, Hollywood will be very busy in the coming months trying to accommodate them all.
As of now, the supporting cast that will appear alongside Selena Gomez as well as the official release date have not been announced.
