Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms affected many areas of Jharkhand from May 29th into the morning of May 30th, causing a significant drop in temperature across the state.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert – a warning level requiring authorities and residents to prepare – for the risk of thunderstorms in 13 districts, including Ranchi, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Koderma, Giridih, Dhanbad, and Godda, effective until 8:30 am on May 31.
Abhishek Anand, Deputy Director of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, said the unusual weather in Jharkhand is related to the simultaneous impact of two low-pressure troughs. The highest temperatures in the state have dropped by up to 7 degrees Celsius compared to previous days, but are likely to rise again by 3-5 degrees Celsius in the next four days.
Jharkhand is one of the states that frequently records casualties from lightning strikes during the monsoon and southwest monsoon seasons. Local authorities advise people to limit their time in the fields, seek shelter under trees, or avoid open areas during thunderstorms; and to closely monitor weather warnings to minimize risks.
