The game Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has officially been released and quickly became a sensation on Steam, peaking at 114,000 players in just a few hours. The game attracted a large number of gamers from its launch thanks to its successful targeting of the Chinese gaming community, similar to the case of Black Myth: Wukong.

However, this initial success was overshadowed by a wave of "extremely negative" reviews from the gaming community, with over 10,400 critical comments on Steam. As of the time of writing, only 2,100 (approximately 16.6%) of the total player reviews were positive.

Contrary to what critics say.

Over 10,400 negative reviews for Wuchang: Fallen Feathers primarily focus on performance issues and game instability. Many players claim that the use of Unreal Engine technology has caused numerous bugs, making it difficult for them to perform even basic tasks like exploring the world or fighting enemies.

"Games using UE5 often have erratic performance, and unfortunately, this game is in a particularly bad state," one player wrote.

Another comment questioned the quality of the tool: "Another unstable UE5 game. Why don't developers carefully optimize the game instead of promoting technologies like frame generation or upscaling?"

Even the positive reviews were somewhat sarcastic, with players primarily praising the appearance of the female protagonist Wuchang and her revealing outfits, before giving the game a high rating.

Despite its apparent failure on Steam, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has received many positive reviews from critics. At the time of writing, the game has a Metascore of 75, which is quite good.

Meanwhile, Insider Gaming gave Wuchang: Fallen Feathers a 4/5 rating and commented: "This is the beginning of a compelling game series that Souls fans should experience."

Additionally, the game achieved a Metascore of 75 on PlayStation 5, 76 on PC, and 83 on Xbox Series X/S. On OpenCritic, the average score from top critics is 75, with 71% of them recommending the game.

Controversial elements

Besides optimization issues, some negative reviews of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers also stem from subjective reasons. Specifically, the game has been criticized for its negative attitude towards women, constantly depicting female characters enduring horrific suffering only to be rewarded with revealing outfits.

This seems to be a common occurrence with games featuring attractive female characters. A notable trend emerging is that many Western game critics are giving negative reviews simply because the game has a female character with an attractive design.

It's also worth recalling that Black Myth: Wukong received low scores from many review sites for being considered "lacking in diversity," despite the main character being a monkey. Furthermore, some critics, even those who gave the game relatively good scores, offered unprofessional reviews.

These cases sparked a major controversy, with the fan community arguing that it's normal for female characters in games to have attractive appearances. The blockbuster "Stellar Blade" also faced significant criticism from reviewers, and even the game's director was subjected to personal attacks when a journalist commented that "the director of Stellar Blade has never seen a woman," despite being married.

The fan community is expressing outrage at such biased reviews and continues to criticize those who have rated the game based on personal opinions and bias.
