Livelihoods derived from production models
In Minh Son commune, creating livelihoods for the people is identified as a crucial solution to achieving the goal of sustainable poverty reduction. In 2025, the commune will implement three projects for raising domestic commercial pigs in the villages of Kho Thum, Lung Thoa, Bo Peng, Khuoi Loa, and Na Ngoong, under the Livelihood Diversification and Poverty Reduction Model Development Project of the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction.
The projects attracted 37 participating households, including 11 poor households, 21 near-poor households, and 5 newly-escaped-poverty households. These households received support in the form of 610 breeding animals, as well as training in livestock farming techniques and assistance with production materials, with a total budget of over 3.3 billion VND, of which the state budget contributed over 2.8 billion VND. The support in terms of breeding animals and technology transfer has enabled these households to confidently develop livestock farming, gradually increasing their income and stabilizing their lives.

Mr. Chao Van Phin from Kho Thum village shared: “Previously, my family mainly worked in the fields, so our income was unstable. After participating in the project, receiving support with breeding stock and guidance on livestock farming techniques, my family has more opportunities to develop economically . If the pigs grow well and sell at a good price, we will have an additional source of income to cover living expenses and gradually escape poverty.”
Comrade Dang Le Dung, Secretary of the Minh Son Commune Party Committee, said that so far, livelihood models are being implemented on schedule, with people proactively caring for livestock according to technical guidelines. Through these projects, not only are people provided with additional income, but it also contributes to changing production mindsets, encouraging households to proactively develop their family economies, and gradually rise out of poverty sustainably.
Not only in Minh Son, but livelihood support programs for people are also being effectively implemented in many other localities. In Yen Phu commune, programs supporting livestock suitable for production conditions have helped many poor households have more means of production, gradually developing their family economy. Mr. Ly Van Dat, from Thai Khao village, is one of the poor households that benefited from the program and rose out of poverty. Mr. Dat shared: “My family is very happy to receive financial support from the State to buy buffaloes. With buffaloes for breeding, the family has more opportunities to develop its economy. To date, the family has increased the herd to 6 buffaloes, and the basic economic conditions are stable, helping us escape poverty.”
Change brought about by poverty reduction projects.
During the period 2021-2025, the province allocated over 17,224 billion VND to implement national target programs. After more than three years of implementation, poverty reduction efforts in the province have achieved many positive results, the material and spiritual lives of the people have gradually improved, and the appearance of rural areas has undergone significant changes.
