Bathynomus, genus Bathynomus , is a crustacean that lives in deep sea areas of about 500 meters (or possibly deeper), and is likened to a "giant sea cockroach" due to its characteristic shape and size, which is quite superior to other creatures living in this area.
Sea sponges have thick bodies with hard protective shells and strongly developed limb structures that help them move on the sea floor.
These are omnivorous organisms that play an important role in the seabed ecological cycle, participating in the decomposition of organic matter and dead organisms, contributing to maintaining biological balance in the deep ocean environment.
In addition, sea cucumbers also possess a high adaptability to the high pressure, low light environment of the deep ocean.
Sea sponges live in deep water and are difficult to catch, so they are often very expensive (Photo: Minh Chau).
Their average weight ranges from 1 to 3 kg, which is also the reason why this species is hunted and exploited for culinary purposes.
From a scientific perspective, sea sponges are also valuable research subjects on physiology and their ability to adapt to harsh environments such as high pressure, low temperature, and lack of light.
However, due to their deep-living and slow-growing characteristics, sea sponge populations are vulnerable to overexploitation, so proper management and exploitation should be considered to conserve resources and maintain deep-sea ecological balance.
