The report found that the number of millionaires in the US increased by 7.3% in 2023 to 7.5 million people. Their total wealth increased by 7% compared to 2022, to $26.1 trillion.

Capgemini defines millionaires as those with investable assets of $1 million or more, excluding primary residence, collectibles or consumer goods.

Meanwhile, the number of Americans with assets of $30 million or more increased 7.5% last year, to 100,000 people, and their assets increased to $7.4 trillion.

Capgemini believes that the stock market recovery in late 2023 combined with trillions of dollars in government spending, as well as the boom in artificial intelligence (AI), has continued to power the US wealth creation "machine".

Globally, ultra-high net worth individuals make up 1% of millionaires but now hold 34% of total wealth, demonstrating growing wealth concentration even among the wealthy.

Finding the cause of bleaching and mass death of many coral reefs in Con Dao

The Management Board of Con Dao National Park, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, said that the survey team including Con Dao National Park, Institute of Oceanography - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has found the cause of coral bleaching and mass death.

According to the survey team, the area around Con Dao archipelago has been experiencing widespread coral bleaching. The main cause is the abnormally high sea water temperature in May.

At the reefs in the Northeast and Southeast such as Dam Tre, Hon Cau, Hon Tai and Cuu Ga, the corals were bleached from 80-100%. Of which, about 15-20% of the newly dead corals after bleaching were common hard corals on the reef such as Acropora, Porites, Montipora, Pachyseris, Pavona, Echinopora, Echinophyllia, Pectinia, Fungia, Ctenactis, and some soft corals were completely bleached.

At the western and northern points such as Hon Tre Lon, Hon Tre Nho, Bai Ong Cuong, Bai Ong Dung, corals were bleached about 60-70%, most of which were Montipora, Porites, Fungia and Pachyseris. Of which, about 10% of corals had just died after bleaching.

According to scientists, the coral bleaching phenomenon in Con Dao is due to an abnormal increase in sea water temperature above 30oC. This is a natural disaster that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has predicted to occur globally from April to October.
