Suitable for a wide range of ages.
At the folk dance club in Thuy Bieu ward, Thuan Hoa district, Ms. Vo Thi Mai, a member of the Thuy Bieu ward women's association, happily said: "Practicing folk dance not only helps my body become healthier and more flexible, but also allows me to chat with other women, which makes me feel very relaxed. Even with a busy work schedule, I still try to set aside 1-2 hours each day to practice."
“From an initial 7-10 members, the Thuy Bieu Ward Folk Dance Club now attracts over 30 regular participants. The members are all busy with work, family, and children, but once they start practicing, they all become 'addicted,' arranging their schedules to participate. Folk dance is not only a sport suitable for all ages, but the club is also a place for women to connect and share. Folk dance is also very easy to learn and remember because the steps are quite simple; any woman can practice. Those who are proficient can teach beginners,” said Ms. Le Thi Hong Gai, Head of the Thuy Bieu Ward Folk Dance Club.
In An Dong ward, Thuan Hoa district, folk dance is one of the cultural and sporting activities that many female officials and members of the ward love and choose to practice to improve their health. With no missed practice session, folk dance is gradually becoming an indispensable part of the daily routine of Ms. Le Thi Nhan, a female member of An Dong ward. “Previously, we practiced folk dance mainly to improve our health, but with the growing folk dance movement at all levels of women's associations, on important occasions, members of folk dance clubs get to wear traditional ao dai (Vietnamese long dress) to perform folk dances to lively music, which I find very exciting,” Ms. Nhan said.
Health, confidence
The growing and spreading folk dance movement has contributed to improving the spiritual lives of women. Not only has it improved their health, but many members who regularly participate in folk dance clubs have also experienced changes in their thinking and awareness. Instead of dedicating all their time to family and children, they have learned to arrange their work schedules and dedicate a certain amount of time each day to practicing, improving their health and well-being.
By participating in folk dance clubs, female members become more confident and assertive in communication, and are more willing to perform in front of large crowds. Daily practice sessions also provide opportunities for them to share experiences on family care, child rearing, economic development, and building happy and prosperous families. As a result, the female members become increasingly close-knit, readily supporting each other in life and actively participating in local women's movements.
Ms. Hoang Thi Phuong Hien, Vice President of the Hue City Women's Union, said: Folk dance has been spreading and attracting a large number of members to participate in training, creating a new wave for the physical exercise and sports movement among female cadres and members throughout the city; contributing to the implementation of the movement "Each woman chooses a suitable sport" to practice daily...
