Over the years, flooding in Kon Tum city has become more frequent. Every time heavy rains appear, some inner city roads of the city will be submerged in water, affecting the daily life of people and affecting the face of the city.
From April to now, in Kon Tum city, there have been a number of prolonged heavy rains, causing many roads such as Phan Dinh Phung, Tran Hung Dao, Ba Trieu, and Le Hong Phong to be submerged in water. The most common flooding is at the intersection of Phan Chu Trinh-Doan Thi Diem street, from Ngo Quyen street to Tran Phu street; Le Loi street (section from Doan Thi Diem to Phan Dinh Phung); Tran Hung Dao Street (section from Doan Thi Diem to Phan Dinh Phung); Dak Bla Water Drop Park area; Phan Dinh Phung street, Le Hong Phong street.

In the face of frequent flooding, people have complained many times and the Provincial People's Committee has asked Kon Tum city to urgently implement immediate solutions to handle flooded roads. However, flooding still recurs after heavy rains, making people angry.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thuy (on Tran Hung Dao Street), flooding on this route often occurs. After each heavy rain, the road is flooded again, affecting businesses and people's lives. To prevent water from entering the house and damaging the property by waves, many families have to put up an iron barrier in front of the door, but it is not very effective.
Mr. Chau Kieu Anh- a food service business household on Tran Hung Dao street is pressing: Every time it rains, the street becomes a river. The flooded road caused a great impact on my family's business. After the water receded, mud and garbage filled the house. Seeing that scene, no one dared to enter the restaurant anymore.
According to the People's Committee of Kon Tum city, the state of deterioration and overload for drainage canals No. 1, No. 2; In particular, the ability to drain at the outlet at the end of the drainage canal route No. 1 and No. 2 is limited in aperture, which is the main cause of local flooding when it rains heavily. In addition, the rainwater drainage network in the inner city has been degraded and has not been synchronously invested; the water drainage system is incomplete and has many limitations; The infrastructure system in general and drainage system in particular has not met the requirements.

Along with that, Kon Tum city is promoting loans from the Finnish Government to implement the Kon Tum city drainage and wastewater treatment project to improve urban environmental infrastructure, control drainage and environmental sanitation in the city. Expected scale of the project: invest in building a system of self-flowing culverts and manholes with a total length of 85km; build 6 sewage pumping stations and wastewater treatment stations, with a capacity of 14.000m3/day.night. The project implementation period is 4 years (2023 - 2026). It is expected that the total investment will be about 814 billion VND, borrowed from Finnish ODA, of which, there will be about 183 billion in grants and more than 252,2 billion in reciprocal capital.
If the above-mentioned drainage canal systems are invested and implemented synchronously, the situation of local flooding in Kon Tum city will be completely overcome.
