Hanoi is becoming increasingly civilized, modern, dynamic, and creative.

This morning (October 10th), the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam , the National Assembly, the President, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the City of Hanoi solemnly organized the national-level commemoration ceremony for the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi (October 10th, 1954 - October 10th, 2024).

This is a significant event in the series of activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi.

Speaking at the commemoration ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that in the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, under the brilliant leadership of President Ho Chi Minh, the Central Party Committee and the Government, Hanoi has always played a particularly important role and position, associated with brilliant milestones full of honor and pride.

According to the General Secretary and President, from a city with a relatively small scale, area, and population, backward infrastructure and economy, and heavily devastated by war after liberation, Hanoi today has become the national political and administrative center, a major center for culture, science, education, economy, and international integration.

He emphasized that Hanoi is one of the 17 largest cities in the world, with an increasingly civilized, modern, dynamic, and creative appearance, imbued with the enduring cultural and historical values of the thousand-year-old land of Thang Long (Eastern Capital).

"The living standards of the people in the capital city have continuously improved. In 2023, the average per capita income reached US$6,348, the poverty rate was only 0.03%, and 19 out of 30 districts and counties no longer had any poor households. Hanoi consistently ranks first in the country in terms of human development index, scale, and quality of education and training," said General Secretary and President To Lam.

With its exceptionally outstanding achievements and immense contributions over the past 70 years, the General Secretary and President stated that Hanoi has been honored to receive many prestigious awards from the Party and the State.

According to him, Hanoi is proud to be the only city in the Asia-Pacific region to be awarded the title "City for Peace" by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization; and the first capital city in Southeast Asia to be inscribed by UNESCO into the global "Creative Cities Network" in 2019.

Combining national strength with the strength of the times.

With the strength and momentum gained after 40 years of reform, and with new opportunities and prospects, General Secretary and President To Lam stated that we are facing a historic opportunity to usher the country into a new era, an era of national progress. This is also the time to chart our future course.

"The demand to usher the country into a new era places increasingly high demands on Hanoi; Hanoi must strive to become a socialist capital as envisioned by President Ho Chi Minh; it must strive to live up to its status as the capital in the new era of national development," General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized.

According to him, the Party and the State hope that Hanoi will continue to strive even harder to become an exemplary model, a source of pride for the people and soldiers nationwide, as President Ho Chi Minh believed.

General Secretary and President To Lam requested that Hanoi focus all efforts, strongly mobilize resources, especially those from the people, and combine national strength with the strength of the times to build Hanoi into a capital city truly worthy of being the national political and administrative center, the heart of the country.

"Developing Hanoi into a cultured, civilized, and modern capital city, so that it can soon become a globally connected city, deeply integrated, and highly competitive with the region and the world."

"The people enjoy a high standard of living and quality of life; the economy, culture, and society are developing in a distinctive and harmonious way, truly becoming a center for the convergence and crystallization of the nation's culture and the civilization of humanity; its level of development is on par with the capitals of developed countries in the region and around the world," the General Secretary and President stated.

In addition, he also called for building a truly exemplary, united, clean, comprehensively strong, and outstanding Party organization and political system in the capital; an active government, and a democratic, modern administration with a proactive and creative spirit.

At the same time, according to the General Secretary and President, Hanoi must strengthen and expand cooperation with the capitals of other countries, promote the culture of Thang Long - Hanoi, build a positive image of Hanoi's culture and people with the people of the whole country, international friends, and overseas Vietnamese, and continue to enhance the position of the capital and the country on the international stage.

"We are proud to have Thang Long - Hanoi, the capital city with a thousand years of history and heroism - a place where the noble values of the Vietnamese nation converge, crystallize, and shine. This further strengthens our confidence in the cause of building the capital and the country; our confidence in the strength from the historical roots of the Vietnamese nation to lead the country steadily towards socialism."

"That is the will and aspiration of our entire Party, people, and army, of the Party Committee and people of the Capital City and the people of the whole country; it is the responsibility of today's generation towards our ancestors and future generations," the General Secretary and President emphasized.

Under the leadership of the Party, upholding the spirit of "self-reliance, self-confidence, self-sufficiency, self-strength, and national pride," strongly mobilizing the people's strength, and closely linking the Party's will with the people's aspirations, the General Secretary and President expressed confidence that the Party Committee, government, and people of Hanoi will successfully implement President Ho Chi Minh's instructions, soon building "Our Capital" into a model "socialist capital" in the world, contributing to bringing the country into a new era, an era of national progress.
