Son Heung Min joined Tottenham from Leverkusen in 2015. During a decade of dedication, he scored 173 goals in 454 appearances, becoming one of the biggest icons in the club's history.

The South Korean star was the captain when Tottenham beat Man Utd in the Europa League final in May, bringing the North London club their first trophy in 17 years.

Despite still having a contract with Spurs until 2026, the 33-year-old player still wants to leave the club soon. The reason is that he is in the final stage of negotiations with Los Angeles FC of the US Major League Soccer (MLS).

The striker, born in 1992, announced: "I came to Tottenham as a boy, not speaking English. Now I leave as a grown man and that makes me very proud. This is the most difficult decision of my career."

Tottenham are in Seoul for a series of pre-season friendlies. Son Heung-min is expected to play and captain the team against Newcastle on August 3. It is likely to be his last appearance for Spurs, and the match will be in his native South Korea.

Coach Thomas Frank, who took over from Ange Postecoglou in June, had many words of praise for his student: “Son is a true legend of Spurs and also one of the greatest players to ever play in the Premier League.

If it was Sonny's last game, there was no better place to say goodbye than in his hometown. It was a beautiful ending."

Tottenham will compete in the European Super Cup against PSG on August 13, but the possibility of Son Heung Min leaving before then is entirely possible.

Son Heung Min added about his decision to leave Tottenham: “I need a new environment to challenge myself. 10 years with Spurs is a long time, and I think it's time for a change. I asked myself many times whether I should experience football in a different environment. I thought a lot and finally came to this decision.”

Debuting for Tottenham in September 2015, Son Heung Min has played 333 matches in the Premier League, scoring 127 goals, equal to the legendary Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, ranking 16th in the list of greatest scorers in the history of the tournament, above names like Dwight Yorke, Steven Gerrard and Ian Wright.

Son Heung Min once formed the most successful attacking duo in Premier League history with Harry Kane. The duo combined to create 47 goals, a record for the most combined goals in the Premier League. In the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, they scored 21 goals from their combined efforts.

In the 2021/22 season, Son Heung Min became the first Asian player to win the Premier League Golden Boot with 23 goals, sharing the title with Mohamed Salah (Liverpool). A year later, he became the first Asian player to reach 100 goals in this tournament.

He played in the 2019 Champions League final against Liverpool, a match that Tottenham lost 0-2. In August 2023, Son officially took over the captaincy from Hugo Lloris.

With 454 appearances, Son is sixth in the list of players with the most appearances in the club's history, behind only legends Cyril Knowles, Pat Jennings, Gary Mabbutt, Steve Perryman and Glenn Hoddle.
