Son Heung-min's jersey was the best-selling sports uniform in the world last week, according to Los Angeles FC (LAFC) co-chairman and CEO John Thorrington in an interview yesterday, August 15, with TalkSport (UK).
"Son's jersey has surpassed every athlete in every sport in the past week, including Lionel Messi (Inter Miami), Cristiano Ronaldo (Al-Nassr), LeBron James (LA Lakers) and Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors)," said Mr. Thorrington.
He did not disclose specific sales figures but said jersey sales have skyrocketed since Son left Tottenham (Premier League) on August 7 to join LAFC. However, Son's official away jersey is currently selling for $194.99 on the MLS website.
"Ronaldo and Messi are still the top football shirt sellers in 2025, according to the data I have been provided. Son has reached almost half the number of shirts sold compared to these two stars in a short time" - Mr. Thorrington added.
Son previously made his LAFC debut on August 10 against Chicago, and will look to score his first MLS goal against New England tomorrow (August 17). Currently, LAFC is ranked 5th in the Western Conference, New England is ranked 11th in the Eastern Conference.
Ticket prices for LAFC’s home games have also skyrocketed due to the Son effect. On SeatGeek, good seats for the match against San Diego on August 31 (Son’s home debut) are being sold for up to $1,500, five times higher than the usual price of $300-$500 until yesterday.
At present, the selling price has reached 3,800 USD - 10 times higher than the normal price.
