Messi becomes the player with the most goals in MLS history
With a hat-trick of assists for Jordi Alba and Tadeo Allende (each player scored 2 goals), Messi became the player with the most goal contributions in 2 MLS (American professional football) seasons, with a total of 77 goals including goals and assists, surpassing Carlos Vela with 76 goals.
Messi also reached the milestone of 100 goals and assists for Inter Miami in a total of 80 matches in all competitions (scoring 66 goals and having 34 assists).

After the hat-trick of assists he just made, Messi only needs 5 more assists to make history - becoming the first football player to reach 400 assists in his career.
However, Messi and Inter Miami's spectacular comeback in the win over New England Revolution only helped them achieve their goal of achieving the highest possible ranking in the rankings. Specifically, they rose to 3rd place in the MLS Eastern region with 59 points after 32 matches. Messi and Inter Miami still have 2 more matches to continue to increase their current position against 2nd place FC Cincinnati who currently have 62 points and only 1 match left.
Meanwhile, the top team Philadelphia Union beat New York City FC 1-0 on the same day, October 5, to officially win the 2025 Supporters' Shield (MLS scoring round), with 66 points and 1 match left, but 7 points ahead of Inter Miami before the last 2 matches.
Messi and Inter Miami only hope for the MLS Cup playoffs, their biggest goal in the 2025 season. This is also the title Messi has been missing since coming to the US to play for Inter Miami in July 2023.
After the match between Inter Miami and New England Revolution, the team chaired by David Beckham also held a farewell ceremony for veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets, who officially retired after the 2025 season ended.
Busquets is expected to continue playing for Inter Miami in the MLS Cup playoffs, and depending on how far the team progresses in this round, it could be the last professional matches of the 36-year-old Spaniard's career.
