Son La: Former bank officer arrested for defrauding 1.1 billion VND

On the afternoon of August 30, the Office of the Investigation Police Agency, Son La Provincial Police, announced that it had prosecuted and temporarily detained Nguyen Van Khiem (born in 1984), residing in Vo Tranh commune, Thai Nguyen province, for fraud and property appropriation.

The Investigation Police Agency of Son La Provincial Police executed an arrest warrant for suspect Nguyen Van Khiem for temporary detention.

According to the investigation, in 2017, while working as an officer at a bank in Son La province, Nguyen Van Khiem provided false information to appropriate a total of 1.1 billion VND from many people in Chieng Hoa commune, Son La province.

After embezzling the money, Nguyen Van Khiem used it for personal purposes, quit his job at the bank and left the area.

In October 2024, the Investigation Agency initiated a case of fraud and property appropriation and organized a search for the subject.

By August 28, 2025, the authorities had collected sufficient evidence, issued a decision to prosecute the accused and an order to temporarily detain Nguyen Van Khiem.

Son La Provincial Police announced that anyone who is a victim of Nguyen Van Khiem is requested to contact Captain Lo Van Truong, Deputy Team Leader, Investigator of the Office of the Police Investigation Agency at phone number 0359.989.578 for assistance in resolving the case.
