Unlike many places, the opening day at My Ly 2 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities took place in a special context when more than a month ago, all of the school's facilities were submerged in mud by floodwaters.
This morning, the opening ceremony was held jointly with My Ly Kindergarten and was brief and solemn.

From the early morning of September 5, students from My Ly 2 Primary Boarding School and My Ly Kindergarten, along with their parents, arrived at school to attend the opening ceremony. Luong Thanh Nhan, a 5A student, shared: "This morning, I woke up at 5am to prepare my clothes. I am very happy to go to school today."
At exactly 7:30 a.m., the children sat upright, their eyes shining as they immersed themselves in the joyful atmosphere after a series of days of natural disasters. Lu Hoang Lam, a student of grade 5A, shared: "My house was swept away by the recent flood, all my books and clothes were lost. I was very sad, but today I was very happy to go to school for the opening ceremony. I just hope to have a new school soon, try to study well so that I can become a teacher in the future."

The historic flood on the night of July 22 and early morning of July 23 devastated many areas in the western part of Nghe An province. My Ly commune suffered the most damage, with many villages and schools submerged in mud.
My Ly 2 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities suffered heavy damage. The historic flood submerged the main school, the 2-story school building was buried almost entirely on the first and second floors. The 4th grade building was swept away, many other auxiliary structures were submerged in mud and soil, making this school unusable for teaching and learning in the new school year.

Teacher Tran Sy Ha, the school's principal, shared: In recent years, the school has received investment in basic construction from the State, along with the help of organizations, individuals, and benefactors, so teaching and learning have become less difficult. But after the flood, everything was wiped out, and the remaining equipment was almost unusable.
In the 2025-2026 school year, the school has 188 students, including 79 boarding students. However, after the flood, the school currently has no school, classrooms, or accommodation for students, so they have to arrange for them to return to the villages to study. The school opened 16 classes from grade 1 to grade 5 at 5 village locations, students study at the old schools and the village's cultural house. The school will assign teachers to the village locations to teach the students. Currently, the school has arranged enough classes and mobilized students to school according to plan, Mr. Ha informed.

Ms. Lo Thi Dau shared: There were times when I stood and watched the school I had been attached to for many years being submerged in mud, the students' school supplies floating away with the water, and I could not hold back my tears because I felt sorry for the students. With the efforts of the entire political system, this year's opening ceremony for the teachers here was the greatest happiness, although there are still many difficulties ahead that teachers and students need to overcome to ensure the quality of teaching and learning.

Entering the new school year, My Ly 2 Primary Boarding School still lacks everything. According to teacher Tran Sy Ha, the school's difficulty at the moment is that the road to the village to teach is too difficult, having to walk, wade through rivers and streams which is very dangerous. In addition, the teachers' accommodation is still temporary, teachers have to rent or stay with relatives. Students have to study in combined classes of 2 to 3 levels to have enough teachers to teach, which affects the quality of learning.
Currently, the school really wants to speed up the construction of the new school. Repair the road from the main campus to the satellite schools, restore the suspension bridge in Yen Hoa village so that teachers and students can travel more easily without having to walk or wade through rivers and streams to get to school and the village, Mr. Ha confided.

The opening day of the school year in Xang Tren village of the two schools My Ly 2 Primary Boarding School and My Ly Kindergarten not only opened a new school year, but also demonstrated the perseverance of the people of western Nghe An in general and the people of My Ly in particular.
In difficult times, teachers still teach, students still go to school, and the community still stands shoulder to shoulder. From the mud, the sound of the school drum and the National Anthem resound in the vast forest, blending with the wind along the Nam Non River as a testament to the revival after the flood.
