The official opening ceremony took place at 6pm, starting with a martial arts performance to the music "Vietnam's Pride", the children's efforts after many days of practice. Without a grand stage, the children still gave their all with martial arts performances and singing to their teachers and parents at the opening ceremony.
“For many years, the opening ceremony has almost never had the sound of the school drum, only the sincere hearts of the children sent to the teachers, volunteers, and parents who have supported them on their journey to find their dream of learning” - Mr. Huynh Ngoc Dinh, head of the Lua Viet Club, shared.
This year is the 12th year the Club has accompanied the children in their search for knowledge, and it is also the year that 13 students have completed primary school. Although their ages are different, they all receive love from Mr. Dinh and the volunteer teachers.
13 children represent 13 different situations and fates: one has an incomplete family, one is shy about being criticized for being old, one makes a living selling lottery tickets... but they all share the same dream of going to school.
“Each child’s journey is different, most of them mature later than their age. I just hope they feel safe and comfortable when staying at Lua Viet house” - Mr. Dinh was moved.
Teacher Dinh said jokingly but the audience choked up: "Today there are only 11 faces coming up to receive certificates of merit, the remaining 2 students are busy making a living" - Photo: BE HIEU
In a moment of gratitude, Ngoc Han (12 years old) choked up as she gave her mother a bouquet of flowers: "My mother has worked hard to raise me, I just hope to grow up quickly so I can go to work and earn money to help my mother."
The journey to school for the children is still full of ups and downs. But in this small class, they are loved, taught to read and write, learned life skills and learned to love each other.

Special zero-dollar market
Before the opening ceremony, from 4pm, the area in front of the classroom became bustling with a small market, where students were free to choose from school supplies to their favorite snacks. Some students hugged their cups of milk tea and smiled, others ran to the stalls selling mixed rice paper, fried beef balls, snacks...
Each child was given 10 shopping coupons, the "price" being a smile. A loving arrangement from teachers and volunteers.
Each booth is a contribution from philanthropists, uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters who have accompanied the class for many years. "The zero-dong back-to-school fair is a gift of gratitude to the students after a year of hard work in studying, and also a spiritual encouragement for a new journey" - said Mr. Dinh.
