SpaceX said on October 22 that it had cut off service to more than 2,500 Starlink internet receivers in Myanmar, suspected of being global online fraud centers, following a world media report on the issue.
In a post on X, SpaceX’s vice president of Starlink business operations, Lauren Dreyer, said the company had “disabled” more than 2,500 Starlink kits near suspected “rogue hubs” in Myanmar. However, she did not specify when the terminals were disconnected.
According to previous media reports, scammers have taken advantage of lax border controls in Myanmar to set up business and romance scam centers targeting victims worldwide. Despite several crackdowns, the number of these centers has continued to increase.
Recently, the Myanmar military raided one of the country's most notorious fraud centers - and seized 30 Starlink satellite internet terminals, showing that these organizations are taking advantage of these mobile devices to serve their fraud networks./.
