On October 22, SpaceX announced that it had cut service to more than 2,500 Starlink internet receivers in Myanmar, suspected of being hubs for global online scams, following a global media report on the issue.
In a post on X, SpaceX's Vice President of Starlink Business Operations, Lauren Dreyer, stated that the company had "disabled" more than 2,500 Starlink kits near suspected "scam centers" in Myanmar. However, she did not specify when these terminals were disconnected.
According to previous media reports, fraudsters have exploited lax border controls in Myanmar to set up centers for emotional and business scams targeting victims worldwide. Despite numerous crackdowns, the number of these centers continues to increase.
Recently, the Myanmar military raided one of the country's most notorious fraud centers, seizing 30 Starlink satellite internet terminals, revealing that these organizations were exploiting these mobile devices to support their fraudulent networks.
