Many potential risks exist.
Recently, the exploitation of cyberspace to commit fraud and child abuse has become increasingly common. Notably, from May 2025 to the present, the city police have received and rescued 21 cases involving student victims who were defrauded and had their property stolen through "online kidnapping" tactics.
Regarding school violence stemming from conflicts on social media, from the beginning of 2026 to the present, through monitoring the situation on the internet, the city police have detected and promptly verified and handled 3 cases that spread on social media.
Given the potential dangers in cyberspace, many parents are understandably worried. Ms. Ha Mai Anh Thao (Thanh Khe ward), whose child is 10 years old, shared that her family always reminds her child not to befriend strangers online, not to provide personal information, and absolutely not to comply with requests from strangers via phone or social media. According to her, besides the involvement of authorities, equipping children with self-protection skills is a key factor in minimizing risks.
However, in reality, not every family finds it easy to control their children's use of digital devices. Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Mai (Lien Chieu ward) said that due to busy work schedules, her family used to have a habit of watching cartoons on their phones while feeding their children. Recognizing the risks of children's exposure to electronic devices, she proactively limited her children's screen time and set up safe modes when they access social media.
Sharing her perspective, Nguyen Thai Anh (a grade 8 student from Cam Le ward) said that smartphones offer many benefits in learning and entertainment. However, excessive exposure to short videos has made her gradually lose patience with longer content that requires concentration.

Equipped with a "protective shield".
Faced with the safety risks from social media, the city's Youth Union branches are stepping up propaganda and training to raise awareness and skills for children in the digital environment, helping young people use social media safely and effectively.
Recently, the Youth Union and Children's Council of Thanh Khe ward organized a training course on applying digital transformation and ensuring online safety for students in the area. During the program, students were educated and guided on identifying information security risks; using social media responsibly; protecting personal data; preventing online fraud; and incorporating educational skits with real-life scenarios…
According to Mai Hong Anh, Secretary of the Thanh Khe Ward Youth Union, protecting children should not only focus on managing or preventing risks, but also on building their resilience, self-protection abilities, and spreading positive values in the digital environment.
In the coming period, through skills clubs and summer activity programs, youth union members and young people in the ward will directly guide and support children in using social media safely and responsibly. Simultaneously, they will strengthen the organization of practical experience activities, summer playgrounds, cultural and sports activities, volunteer work, and life skills training to help children reduce their dependence on digital devices, have more opportunities for direct communication, and develop emotional and social skills in a healthy environment.
As the unit directly involved in combating cybercrime, the departments and divisions of the City Police, in coordination with relevant units, have recently organized direct awareness campaigns at more than 80 secondary schools, high schools, universities, colleges, and educational institutions, attracting over 40,000 students, teachers, and parents.
The training content includes: identifying risks, and equipping participants with skills to prevent harm and fraud in cyberspace.
In addition, the police force effectively maintains communication channels, regularly publishing articles and reports to raise awareness. The content aims to improve understanding of cybercrime tactics, safe behavior skills, and warnings about risks from new technologies, especially AI, thereby contributing to the dissemination of positive information and enhancing self-protection capabilities for young people.
A representative from the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of the City Police said that the unit is continuing to strengthen its propaganda efforts and effectively utilize electronic information pages and channels to raise public awareness.
In addition, businesses and cross-border platforms are required to strengthen content censorship, restrict harmful information, establish verification mechanisms, and set age limits for users.
In addition, organizations and businesses promptly provide information to assist in verifying, tracing, and investigating acts of child abuse in the online environment.
Authorities are strengthening coordination to review, filter, and block domains, websites, and groups with unhealthy content; organizing conferences and training courses to update new methods and tactics, improve prevention and combat skills, and contribute to protecting children's safety in cyberspace.
