According to GizmoChina , Windows 12 may be released next year, amidst much speculation in the tech industry. This move would relegate Windows 11 to the list of obsolete operating systems and end support for older platforms. Following this trend, many other tech companies are also gradually ending support for older versions of Windows. One of them, the gaming platform Steam, is also about to implement a similar move.

Specifically, in March of this year, the world's largest online game store announced it would stop supporting several older operating systems. Now, this announcement is about to take effect; starting January 1, 2024, Steam will no longer be compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. Users will be required to upgrade to Windows 10, Windows 11, or the upcoming Windows 12.

As you can see, in less than 15 days, many players on older platforms will no longer be able to use Steam. According to Steam's November survey, only 1% of Steam users are still using older versions of Windows. While this number may seem small, it's worth noting that the total number of Steam users is estimated to reach around 1.2 billion by December 2023. Therefore, that small 1% could still amount to 12 million people.
