BE CAREFUL, ELECTRICAL SAFETY IN THE SUMMER
Mr. Le Nhan Hai, Captain of My Tho Electricity Management Team, Dong Thap Electricity Company said: “In the summer, when children are off school and stay at home more, the risk of electrical accidents increases. Children are often curious, can play with sockets or use dangerous electrical equipment without adults around. The Electricity Industry has made many specific recommendations to protect the safety of households such as: Installing sockets higher than 1.5 m, attaching safety covers to electrical outlets; equipping anti-shock circuit breakers for the entire electrical system; not leaving electrical wires messy; educating children not to touch electrical equipment with wet hands, not to use equipment without adults around”.

Mr. Nguyen Van Giau, residing in My Tho commune (Dong Thap province) shared: “During the summer, the children come to play with their grandparents, so the family is very concerned about implementing solutions to ensure safety when the children use electrical equipment. Thanks to the regular propaganda of the Electricity industry, my family always pays attention to checking the electrical wiring system in the house, replacing old electrical outlets, installing safety covers and installing anti-shock circuit breakers. The family also regularly reminds the children not to touch electrical outlets with wet hands and to turn off the equipment after use to ensure safety.”
USE ELECTRICITY ECONOMICALLY - PRACTICAL AND CIVILIZED ACTION
During hot summer days, using cooling devices properly is a way to help families save money and at the same time protect the general electrical system. Mr. Nguyen Van Giau added: “When the weather is hot, cooling devices such as air conditioners and fans are used frequently, causing the electricity bill to increase sharply. Therefore, during the day, we open the windows to let in the fresh air and limit the use of air conditioners. In addition, electrical appliances in the house are also selected with energy-saving labels, the refrigerator gasket is regularly cleaned to ensure good operation and the refrigerator is only opened when necessary.”
According to Mr. Le Nhan Hai, Captain of My Tho Electricity Management Team, Dong Thap Electricity Company, one of the important principles recommended is "4 rights": Right time - Right place - Right way - Right need. People should adjust the air conditioner temperature to 26 - 28oC, combined with using fans to increase cooling efficiency while still saving electricity. Electrical devices not in use should be turned off completely and unplugged, priority should be given to using inverter technology devices with energy-saving labels.
Nguyen Thi Ha (born in 2008), living in My Tho commune, shared: “Before, I only used electricity without paying much attention to how to use it to ensure safety and save electricity for my family. But after being guided by the Electricity staff, I changed many habits, I “pocketed” for myself many good tips to use electricity economically and safely such as: When you finish charging your phone, unplug it from the socket, turn off the air conditioner circuit breaker when not in use, keep the air conditioner temperature from 26 - 28°C. This method helps save electricity and reduces the risk of fire and explosion”.
ELECTRICITY INDUSTRY ACTIVELY ACCOMPANIES PEOPLE
To ensure stable power supply during the summer as well as prepare for the upcoming rainy and stormy season, the Electricity sector has implemented many synchronous solutions to ensure power supply. According to a representative of Dong Thap Electricity Company, the entire sector is strengthening grid inspection, reviewing and maintaining the transformer station system, medium and low voltage lines, and applying remote monitoring technology to detect early points at risk of overload and handle them promptly.
At the same time, propaganda work is deployed to each residential area, school, Women's Union, mass organizations... to raise public awareness about safe, economical and effective use of electricity. Programs such as: "Earth Hour", "Family saves electricity"... contribute to building the habit of using electricity safely, economically and effectively in people's daily life and production, promoting a sense of responsibility towards the community and the environment.
Faced with the increasing demand for electricity and complex weather conditions, every citizen and every household should join hands to use electricity safely, economically and effectively - not only to protect themselves but also to contribute to preserving national energy resources, ensuring electricity security, for a safe - civilized - sustainably developed community.
