Ngoc Dung's health has shown positive progress.

Speaking to a reporter from Thanh Nien Newspaper, Ms. Tran Thi Hoa, the younger sister of footballer Ngoc Dung, said that Ngoc Dung's health has improved significantly since being brought back from a hospital in Japan.

"As of today, February 10, 2024 (the first day of the Lunar New Year), Mr. Ngoc Dung has been hospitalized at Hanoi Heart Hospital for six days. He is practicing speaking, able to speak softly and in short sentences. When I came to take care of Mr. Dung, I had him practice saying the names of everyone in his family and relatives. He remembers everyone's names. He can say short sentences, like 'What do you want to eat, son?' or 'Mom, get me some water,'" said Ms. Tran Thi Hoa.

The younger sister of the former SLNA player said that on the first day of his hospitalization, Ngoc Dung ate porridge, but now he can eat vermicelli, pho, and rice. "Dung really likes eating vermicelli and pho. Yesterday he was able to eat a whole bowl of vermicelli. Luckily, the hospital canteen was still open throughout Tet, so my mother and I could still buy food."

Ms. Tran Thi Hoa added that although Ngoc Dung is currently unable to walk, during the days she visited to care for him, she helped him practice standing and moving his arms and legs. Now, the former SLNA player can stand.

"Since he started treatment at Hanoi Heart Hospital, with family members close by to care for him, ensuring he eats all his main and supplementary meals every day, and giving him extra milk, thankfully, Mr. Ngoc Dung has gained a little weight compared to when he first returned from Japan…," Ms. Hoa shared.

Ngoc Dung returned to Hanoi and continued treatment at Hanoi Heart Hospital on the morning of February 5, 2024.

Ms. Tran Thi Hoa and her mother rented a small room near the Hanoi Heart Hospital to live in, so they could take turns going to the hospital to care for Ngoc Dung. Each time, only one family member is allowed into the patient's room to provide care.

Ms. Hoa said that even during the Lunar New Year holiday, many patients were hospitalized or admitted to the emergency room. To boost morale and care for patients receiving treatment during the Lunar New Year, doctors and nurses at the hospital, as well as philanthropists, have visited the wards and rooms to inquire about their well-being and give them lucky money. Ngoc Dung also received lucky money; he was very happy because, despite the cold weather during the holiday, he was able to return to Vietnam, to be near his mother and sister – his family – even though his health still needs time to recover.

Many people have shown their support for Ngoc Dung.

Ngoc Dung, a former SLNA player, went to Japan in December 2023 to participate in an amateur football tournament for Vietnamese people at their invitation. Just five minutes into the game, Ngoc Dung collapsed on the field. He received emergency treatment from doctors in Japan and is now out of danger.

He was diagnosed with ventricular fibrillation (also known as cardiac fibrillation). This is a heart rhythm disorder that prevents the heart from pumping blood normally, causing sudden cardiac arrest. Although the former SLNA player has overcome the life-threatening stage, due to blood clots that formed during the cardiac arrest phase, Dung's subsequent treatment was prolonged. He received treatment in Japan for over a month before being transferred to Hanoi Heart Hospital in the early morning of February 5, 2024.

Mr. Do Quang Ba, Chairman of the Vietnam-Japan International Exchange Organization (FAVIJA), Chairman of the Board of Directors, and General Director of Vietnam-Japan Medical Cooperation Joint Stock Company (VJIIC), stated that the total cost of Ngoc Dung's treatment in Japan was nearly 17 million yen. If the total cost from the time Ngoc Dung arrived in Japan until he was transferred to Hanoi Heart Hospital (including the cost for the Japanese medical team accompanying him on the flight and the ambulance for airport transfers) is calculated, it exceeds 20 million yen, equivalent to over 3.5 billion VND.

Mr. Pham Dinh Thuong, General Director of SUN SHINE Joint Stock Company, Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Saitama Province, Japan, who returned from Japan to Vietnam and closely followed Ngoc Dung during his hospitalization in Hanoi, stated that the entire cost of over 3.5 billion VND was fully covered by SUN SHINE Joint Stock Company (the company that invited Ngoc Dung to play for their club in Japan).

Ngoc Dung still needs long-term treatment in Vietnam, and his family is facing difficult circumstances. All the money donated by the community to Ngoc Dung (including from Japan and Vietnam) in recent days will be sent to his family to support the former SLNA player's continued treatment in Vietnam.

Any donations to help player Ngoc Dung can be sent to account number 1026549355 - Vietcombank .

The account holder is Tran Thi Hoa (Ngoc Dung's sister).
