Although there are still more than 10 days until the Lunar New Year, supermarkets are already quite crowded with shoppers, mainly focusing on fresh produce, confectionery, and fruit. This year, Vietnamese products are also being chosen by consumers. Many consumers believe that the supply of Tet goods this year is relatively complete and abundant. The majority of items chosen are Vietnamese products due to their good quality.
Regarding distribution businesses, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan - Director of Go! Thang Long supermarket - said that the market situation in December 2024 and the Tet holiday month of 2025 at the GO! Thang Long supermarket system shows a similar Tet shopping trend compared to previous years. The market offers a wide variety of goods, stable prices, and diverse shopping options both through traditional and online channels.
While shopping activity in the previous week was not significantly different from normal months, recently, and especially in the last few days, the number of customers visiting GO! Thang Long supermarket has increased quite significantly, by about 20-30% compared to the previous week and by about 15% compared to the same period in 2024.
To prepare for the merchandise shortage, the supermarket began implementing measures around the third quarter of 2024, increasing its stock by approximately 15% compared to the same period last year, with a focus on fresh produce to serve the upcoming Tet holiday. Notably, 90% of the products displayed on the supermarket shelves are Vietnamese goods.
In addition, the supermarket is implementing many promotional programs to stimulate consumer spending, aiming to provide consumers with a complete and prosperous Tet holiday. The supermarket is also working with suppliers nationwide and transportation partners to ensure a continuous supply of goods throughout the Tet holiday, without interruption before, during, and after the holiday. Besides direct sales channels, the supermarket is also boosting its online sales to provide the most convenient shopping experience for consumers.
Avoid localized shortages when demand increases sharply.
Sharing information about stockpiling goods to meet shopping demands during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake (2015), Ms. Nguyen Kieu Oanh - Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade - said that to meet the shopping needs of people during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade and businesses have developed plans and signed contracts to source goods for the Tet holiday, increasing the average by 5-20% for each item compared to the Tet holiday plan of 2024.

However, to ensure the best preparation and avoid being caught off guard in the days leading up to Tet when people's shopping demand increases, Mr. Nguyen Manh Quyen also advised supermarkets, retailers, and distributors to proactively secure their supply of goods, avoiding localized shortages when people's demand surges.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Quyen – Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee: In the coming time, in addition to supporting businesses and production facilities in selling their products, supermarkets should promote the export of Vietnamese goods to international markets through the distribution systems of foreign enterprises. |
