From a land of historical significance to a new growth pole of the country.
With a history spanning over a thousand years, Thanh Hoa province holds a special position in the process of nation-building and national defense. As a land of "spiritual and talented people," the birthplace of many dynasties and the homeland of national heroes, Thanh Hoa province has long been considered a land possessing immense potential for breakthroughs.
In the context of the country entering a new stage of development with the requirement for rapid, sustainable growth and deep integration, the revised Thanh Hoa Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, recently signed and promulgated by the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee on May 30, 2026, has established an ambitious strategic vision: to build Thanh Hoa into a prosperous, beautiful, civilized, modern, comprehensively developed, and exemplary province of the whole country.

It is noteworthy that this planning document does not simply set economic growth targets, but aims for a comprehensive development model that is people-centered, driven by science, technology, and innovation, based on culture and historical traditions, and guided by sustainable development principles.
That vision is concretized by the goal of transforming Thanh Hoa province into a new growth pole, along with Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Quang Ninh, forming a "development quadrilateral" in the North of the country. This not only affirms the province's strategic position but also demonstrates confidence in the strong dynamism of this land with over 4.3 million inhabitants.
Unlike many localities that develop based on a few isolated economic sectors, Thanh Hoa province has chosen a multi-pillar development path. Besides the three established pillars – processing and manufacturing industries; agriculture; and tourism – the province is also building two new pillars: science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and logistics and port services.
This is a modern development mindset, oriented towards a knowledge-based economy and a digital economy – the main driving forces of the world in the 21st century.

From the Nghi Son Economic Zone – a national-scale industrial, energy, and logistics center; to Thanh Hoa city – a center for administration, services, education, and healthcare; from Lam Son - Sao Vang with its advantages of an airport and high-tech agriculture; to Sam Son and Hai Tien with the aspiration to become international-level coastal tourism centers... all are being connected in a synchronized development whole, creating a new face for Thanh Hoa province in the future.
In particular, the plan does not overlook the western mountainous region – an area facing many difficulties but possessing enormous potential in forestry, ecotourism, border trade, and green economy. A harmonious development approach between mountainous and lowland areas, and between coastal and inland regions, is the foundation for ensuring social equity and sustainable development.
Building a civilized, modern, and livable Thanh Hoa.
A key highlight of the vision for 2050 is the significant shift from focusing on economic growth to focusing on improving the quality of life.
A prosperous Thanh Hoa province is not only measured by its GRDP or budget revenue, but also by the quality of its education, healthcare, environment, culture, and the happiness of its people.
In that future vision, science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation are identified as key drivers. Thanh Hoa province aims to build a digital government, digital economy, and digital society; establish a digital economic and innovation zone; develop the data industry, data centers, high technology, and new economic models such as the green economy, circular economy, and low-level spatial economy.

These are leading sectors that create new competitive advantages for the locality in the global development race.
Along with that is a synchronized and modern infrastructure system. The North-South and East-West economic corridors; multimodal transport routes; a network of seaports, airports, high-speed railways; and smart cities will form the "lifeblood" for the circulation of goods, resources, and knowledge.
Thanh Hoa province is also aiming to develop green, smart cities that are adaptable to climate change. Coastal urban areas, cities along the Ma and Chu rivers, and the future Lam Son - Sao Vang urban area will not only be economic centers but also high-quality living spaces for residents.
Alongside economic development, the planning places special emphasis on preserving the cultural identity of Thanh Hoa province. The values of Ho Dynasty Citadel, Lam Kinh, Ba Trieu, Con Moong Cave, Ham Rong, as well as folk songs and traditional festivals, will continue to be preserved and promoted as soft resources for development.
Because a province that is economically prosperous but loses its cultural identity will find it difficult to achieve sustainable development. Therefore, the planning has placed the historical, cultural, and revolutionary traditions of the people of Thanh Hoa at the center of the development strategy.

More notably, in the vision for 2050, people are identified as both the goal and the driving force of development. High-quality human resources, dynamic entrepreneurs, skilled experts, and a skilled workforce will be decisive factors in the success of this upward journey.
From coastal to mountainous regions, from urban to rural areas, all citizens must benefit from the fruits of development and have access to high-quality education, healthcare, culture, and social services.
That vision is not just about numbers or goals on paper. It is the aspiration of the entire political system and millions of people in Thanh Hoa province for a prosperous future.
From a land of historical heroism, Thanh Hoa province is striving to become a pioneering region of innovation, creativity, and development in the 21st century. A prosperous, civilized, modern, and exemplary Thanh Hoa province for the whole country is no longer a distant dream but is gradually becoming a reality on the journey to realizing the strategic plan until 2050.
