According to RT news agency, the Russian company Kama recently announced that they have received up to 36,000 pre-orders for the Atom electric car. The first Atom is expected to leave the assembly plant at the end of 2024, and the car will not be mass-produced until the summer of 2025.

"In just two months, there have been 36,000 pre-orders, which is five times the number of electric cars sold in Russia in the first half of 2023. This is a sign of customer trust, and we are very grateful for it," the Russian manufacturer said on its official Telegram channel.

The number of pre-orders has exceeded Kama's expectations, as the company initially set a target of producing 10,000 Atoms by the end of 2025.

Kama’s communications department added that any customer can pre-order the new model and receive a key code that allows access to their personal account. The model will be tailored to suit a variety of uses, not only serving individual customers but also taxi and car rental businesses.

The announcement about the opening of the pre-order portal was made by Kama at the end of July this year. The manufacturer expects the Atom to be sold not only in Russia, but also in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, China and the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

According to information posted on the company's website, the pre-order price for the Atom model is 7,000 rubles (more than 1.7 million VND). Kama has not announced the final price for the new model, the information will be revealed closer to the launch date and "will correspond to the market price of electric vehicles of this type at the time of Atom's launch".

The company stressed that it is working to create electric vehicles that are technologically advanced, consumer-friendly and, importantly, “affordable.”

The Russian car has many superior features, can accelerate to 100km/h in 8 seconds, battery capacity 77 kWh. Charging time to travel 100km is 8 minutes.

Over 500 designers and experts contributed

The manufacturer said that more than 500 car designers and IT experts were involved in the development and manufacturing of the new car model. Italy's Torino design studio also contributed to the appearance of the Atom.

The Atom electric car prototype launched in May 2023, is nearly 4m long, 1.78m wide and 1.61m high.

In August, it was announced that the Moskvich plant would be responsible for the production of the new model. This place was chosen because of its advanced technology, high production quality and a certain reputation in the automotive industry.

"The Moskvich plant is actively implementing innovative production methods and striving for sustainability, which is fully in line with Atom's goals. Today, our team is ready to go to the plant and develop the ideal production process for creating the Atom electric car," Atom project CEO Harald Grübel was quoted by RIA Novosti news agency as saying in August.

According to The Bell (Russia), despite being cut off from Western technology, Russia is still persistent in its intention to build electric cars. Currently, Moscow is trying to restart the projects with the support of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation and China.

Rosatom is currently using Chinese technology to develop electric motors and batteries for electric vehicles. Documents released by the corporation said that Chinese technology will be used in the production of Atom, and Nanjing University (China) has confirmed its cooperation with Kama.
