- 13 times of voluntary blood donation
- Ca Mau General Hospital organizes voluntary blood donation
Enthusiastic and dedicated
Formerly a reporter for the Provincial Radio and Television Station , Mr. Huynh Tien Son transferred to the Provincial Steering Committee for the Mobilization of Volunteers (Steering Committee), the Provincial Red Cross Society at the end of 2020. As the Secretary of the Steering Committee Office, he always strives to complete all assigned tasks with enthusiasm and dedication.
From the beginning of each year, Mr. Son proactively plans and allocates targets to units in the province to receive blood, along with the monthly blood collection plan organized by the Steering Committee. He also directly plans and organizes programs such as: "Red Journey", "Red Sunday", " World Blood Donor Day"... He himself has developed plans and directly participated in successfully organizing 5 "Red Journey" programs, including the 10th "Red Journey" Program in 2022 organized at the national level.
Mr. Son also regularly coordinates with agencies and units in the province to promote and mobilize blood donation; directly writes more than 500 news, articles, and reports promoting the blood donation movement, which are published in local newspapers and radio stations, along with more than 100 news and articles published in central newspapers... He also wrote and edited two complete propaganda magazines on blood donation.
Mr. Son confided: “I have a background in journalism, having worked as a news reporter, taking photos, and filming reports, so I adapted very quickly to the communication work on blood donation. I realize that communication on blood donation is extremely important. Because in remote areas, there are still many people who do not have knowledge or understanding about the issue of humanitarian blood donation, they hold the old concept that blood donation will affect their health, weaken the body... Many folk stories are passed down, making people confused about blood donation. My colleagues and I have to go to the place to propagate and convince with scientific evidence to change outdated and wrong perceptions and views on blood donation.”
At each campaign and propaganda session for the local blood donation movement, Mr. Son always reminds and encourages his brothers to pay attention to every detail such as billboards, banners, streamers..., because to him, even small things touch the heart.
“ The power of the media will spread the message and meaning of HMTN. Therefore, I always try my best to renew communication activities. The more remote and difficult the place is, the more we have to invest and create comfort so that people who come to donate blood feel respected and feel like they are part of this meaningful journey,” Mr. Huynh Tien Son shared. |
From 2021 to 2024, on average, each year Mr. Son mobilized his family, relatives and people to donate blood, about 500 times or more. Notably, from 2021 to now, the Steering Committee Office under his charge has promoted and mobilized in many forms, resulting in nearly 40,000 people registering, 27,207 people donating blood, converting more than 38,089 units of blood. Notably, in just the first 5 months of 2025, 10,200 people registered to donate blood, 3,952 people donated blood, converting 5,532 units of blood.
Mr. Huynh Tien Son joined the national delegation of voluntary blood donors in 2025.
Will continue to do until no longer able
Not only taking on the role of media, Mr. Tien Son is also the Chairman of the Ca Mau Rare Blood Club. Since its establishment, club members have donated nearly 400 units of blood, with more than 70 units of rare blood donated in 2024 alone. He himself always upholds the pioneering spirit of blood donation.
Mr. Son shared: “I have a rare blood type (Brh-), and have donated blood 22 times, each time 350 ml. I feel responsible for sharing my rare blood, because it will save many people. Each drop of blood donated is my love, as well as a small contribution to society. Thinking like that, I live happily, live healthily and try harder every day”. He believes that donating blood to save people is the most important thing, whether near or far, when he is eligible, he always tries to donate blood.
What makes him happiest is that his family members are supportive of his spirit and the path he is taking. Some members of his family have donated blood many times. Even his neighbors and distant relatives have been successfully ideologically trained by Mr. Son, and from their initial reluctance, they have become enthusiastic and regular blood donors.
Mr. Son encouraged his wife and family members to donate blood with him.
He shared: “Once my uncle was sick but there was no suitable blood source for transfusion. It was not until I went in for a blood test that I found hope for my own relative. From then on, I understood and appreciated the value of every drop of blood that people volunteered to give. They silently sowed seeds of life and hope.”
Many people often tease him for "eating at home, carrying the burden of prison and the whole village", but he just smiles, then quietly does charity work, so that his hot blood can be given in the most valuable way. "Directly donating blood and doing media work, I am more aware of the humane value of the work I am doing and want to do it until I am no longer able to", Mr. Son confided.
His only wish is that the work of mobilizing blood donation will receive more and more attention from all levels and sectors, and that the communication will be more drastic with new and attractive forms, attracting people from all walks of life to donate blood to save lives with kindness and love.
With his efforts and contributions, Mr. Huynh Tien Son was recognized and rewarded: Certificate of Merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society for outstanding achievements in the work of the Association and the Red Cross movement in 2021; Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for outstanding achievements in propaganda and mobilization of voluntary blood donation in 2023; Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee awarded to families with outstanding achievements in the blood donation movement in 2023; Certificate of Merit from the Director of the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion for outstanding achievements in organizing the "Red Journey" Program in 2024; Certificate of Merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society for outstanding achievements in voluntary blood donation mobilization in 2024; Certificate of Merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society for outstanding achievements in voluntary blood donation work in 2025...
