The Century SUV is the pinnacle of luxury in the automotive world , but now Toyota is making it even more special with a new upgrade: rear privacy glass. This is standard equipment for the 2026 version of this large SUV. While it is not groundbreaking technology, for a car that has already "hit the roof" in terms of luxury, every little upgrade is meaningful.
More specifically, the Toyota Century SUV is equipped with rear window glass as well as third window glass that can adjust the opacity to three levels, including transparent, semi-transparent and fully opaque. To achieve this, Toyota has sandwiched a special film between two layers of laminated transparent glass on both sides of the car. The panoramic sunroof remains the same and uses traditional electric blinds. Toyota's goal was to increase privacy for rear passengers, blocking out outside views without losing the soft natural light. When fully dimmed, the interior feels like a Japanese-style room.
The Toyota Century SUV was designed as a chauffeur-driven vehicle, so the rear space is meticulously cared for. Notable features here include electric side steps, extended rear doors, grab handles for getting in and out of the car, ambient lighting, folding tables, antibacterial surfaces, and coat hooks. There's even a place to store a shoe spoon. If you’re still not convinced, the rear seats also have reclining backrests and calf rests that fold flat into beds, perfect for napping between meetings. Rear passengers also have their own consoles and personal entertainment systems, all of which are connected to an 18-speaker premium audio system. Unfortunately, the interior and exterior design of the 2026 Toyota Century SUV has not changed compared to the old version that was launched in September 2023. With a length of up to 5,205 mm, this model is often compared to the "Japanese Rolls-Royce Cullinan". The car also has many high-end personalization options, including custom-made. Under the hood is a plug-in hybrid electric powertrain (PHEV) with a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine, producing a total of 406 horsepower. Power is sent to all four wheels via the E-Four Advanced AWD system, while the battery provides a pure electric range of just 43 miles. Toyota has also confirmed that the car will have a Century GR version developed by its high-performance vehicle division Gazoo Racing.
The new tinted glass feature adds 2 million yen (about 360 million VND) to the price of the 2026 Toyota Century SUV. This brings the price of the car to about 27 million yen (4.86 billion VND). However, with extremely limited production numbers and sold only at a few dealers in Japan, this model is mainly for customers who already own the Toyota Century luxury sedan. Of course, Toyota isn’t the first to put smart glass on a production car. Brands like Maybach, Mercedes-Benz, and McLaren have also used the technology in sunroofs or side windows. Nissan even recently added an electric sunroof to its latest generation Leaf electric car.
