The strength of the Hanoi College of Physical Education and Sports team.
The Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports team has qualified for the semi-finals after defeating Van Hien University team 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the 3rd Vietnam Youth and Student Football Tournament - 2025 THACO Cup (TNSV THACO Cup 2025).
For the first time in three years of participating in the tournament, Coach Pham Minh's team reached the semi-finals. Meanwhile, for Van Hien University, this is the third consecutive time they have been eliminated in the quarter-finals. Last season, Coach Hoang Hai Duong and his team lost on penalties to Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports. This season, they suffered a defeat against Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports.

With their superior player quality and a solid, effective control-oriented playing style, Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports completely dominated the match. The Northern representatives launched relentless attacks through the midfield, inspired by captain Vu Hai Tien (number 10), along with strong attacking players who held off defenders and made excellent runs, such as Vu Viet Hoang (number 17) and Duong Tat Thanh (number 9).
Recognizing Viet Hoang and Hai Tien as the two most dangerous attacking threats on the opposing team, Van Hien University focused their defense on neutralizing both players. However, with his skillful technique and clever shielding, Hai Tien easily bypassed them to initiate fluid attacks down the flanks and through the center.
While Van Hien University's team played passively, Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports chose the right moment to strike: at the end of the first half (when their opponents were tired) and at the beginning of the second half (when their opponents hadn't yet found their rhythm). Viet Hoang's two goals in the 40th and 43rd minutes both came from well-executed combinations typical of Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports: quick, concise, direct, and straightforward. The number 17 of Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports has scored 5 goals since the start of the tournament and has a great chance of becoming the top scorer.
Almost regretted it at the last minute.
However, coach Pham Minh's decision to substitute Vu Viet Hoang off the field proved to be a turning point for Van Hien University in the second half.
Without their strong, physical striker, Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports lost control of the game. Substitute player Do Minh Tu, despite his scoring form, failed to connect with his teammates as effectively as his senior counterpart. With their number one striker gone, Van Hien University took a risk by pushing forward in the final 20 minutes and created numerous scoring opportunities.
The Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports team was put under pressure in the final minutes.
Vo Tran Hoang Phuc's header in the 61st minute ignited the fighting spirit of Van Hien University, while Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports struggled to defend. Coach Pham Minh had to urge his players to press forward to win the ball, instead of retreating and allowing the opponent to freely coordinate their attacks.
The final 10 minutes of the match saw Van Hien University bombard Hoang Tuan Duc's goal with high balls. However, the experience gained from years of competing in student tournaments helped Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports maintain their slender one-goal lead, thus advancing to the semi-finals.
"I'm happy to have contributed to the team's victory. It's just a shame I wasn't feeling well today; I felt a bit sluggish because I have a cold," striker Viet Hoang shared.
In the semi-finals, Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports will face Da Nang University of Physical Education and Sports. "We've never faced each other in a student tournament before. Our opponent is very strong, so we have to carefully study their playing style. I've watched Da Nang University of Physical Education and Sports play and hope to have a good match in the semi-finals," Viet Hoang affirmed.
