Towards the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), Mr. Nguyen Tri Hanh, an art teacher at Hermann Gmeiner High School (Vinh city, Nghe An ) created a meaningful work with colored chalk right on the classroom board.

The work vividly recreates the heroic historical moment of April 30, 1975, with the image of a tank crashing into the gate of the Independence Palace, full of spirit and heroism.

Sharing about the process of making the work, Mr. Hanh said that he had researched many documents, books, and even talked with history teachers to better understand the context, thereby building a suitable image for the work. After finalizing the idea, Mr. Hanh spent two working sessions to complete it.

"The colorful chalk lines on the green board remind us of an unforgettable heroic time. It is also a deep gratitude to the generations of fathers and brothers who fell for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. I am proud and happy to be able to express it with my own hands and heart," the male teacher shared.

For the male teacher, creating the painting is not simply an activity to celebrate the anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day on April 30. More than just a work of art, this is a way for him to convey to his students profound lessons about the nation's heroic history.

"The painting is not only an image recreating a sacred historical moment, but also a bridge bringing today's young generation back to their original values, thereby nurturing love for their homeland and country in each child," said Mr. Hanh, expressing his joy that the work left a strong impression, touching the hearts of many people.

In addition to this painting, the teacher also has about 500 other works, each reflecting a story or prominent event in the constant flow of history, drawn with all his heart.

The vivid and lifelike paintings leave viewers in awe and admiration. However, they only last for a very short time. When new inspiration comes, the teacher has to erase the old masterpiece to make room for the next one.

White chalk is easy to smudge, difficult to preserve, and cannot last as long as paintings on paper. For Mr. Hanh, this fragility creates a unique beauty - a unique beauty that cannot be copied in art.

Not only creating on the chalkboard, Mr. Nguyen Tri Hanh also spends time on a personal project called "Spreading the art of drawing on the chalkboard", with the goal of bringing this unique art form to all 63 provinces and cities. To date, he has traveled to 12 provinces, organizing free sharing sessions for local teachers.

Mr. Hanh hopes that the art of drawing on the board with colored chalk will soon be recognized, on par with other art materials in painting.
