The accident happened after the Coromandel Express passenger train running from Kolkata to Chennai derailed and overturned after colliding with a freight train in the Balasore district of Odisha state on June 2.

Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, while government and air force teams were also mobilized to assist. Local officials confirmed that nearly 50 ambulances were dispatched to transport the injured to the hospital, not to mention a large number of buses were also mobilized to assist in the rescue work.

On Twitter, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi affirmed that he would mobilize all necessary assistance to help the victims.
